Question. The word space could be replaced by

The correct answer according the Longman CD is (b).

Now, can anybody tell me why in world it cannot be (d) :mad:

What usage of room are you thinking of?

 

If room = space around something (eg there isn't enough room to put my car in that garage) then the usage implies a sufficiency of space rather the empty space itself. It would not be correct usage here.

 

If room = room in a house that would not be an appropriate context.

Off course, room as a room in a house is out of the question.

 

Room as a sufficient space. Hmm... interesting. I didn't know that. My dictionary doesn't specify that. It just lists room, space and area as synonyms.
