Score of 80 Speaking: Question totals.

I hope this is not a silly question.

There are 6 questions on the toefl iBT speaking.

If I get a 4 on Questions #1, #2 and #5,

what scores do I need to get on Questions #3, #4, and #6?

Thanks to anyone who can help.

Hi, Benallo.

I think there may be some confusion with required scores. The new TOEFL (the ibt) has a maximum of 120 points total (each of the four sections is worth a scaled score of 30). Therefore, a speaking score of 80 wouldn't really be possible.

If, for example, you needed a 26 (scaled score) in speaking like many of the people here taking the TOEFL for professional licenses, that would equate to 20 points of "raw score." In other words, if you received two 4's and the rest 3's (3 4 3 3 4 3), you would have a 26 on your scaled score for speaking.

Thanks for the answer. I made a mistake.

I need a 20 on speaking and a total score of 80.

For a score of 20 on speaking, I am trying to think of the scoring breakdown by each of the 6 questions.

Thanks.

In my opinion, there is no need to do such deep analysis. If you can just speak clearly, you'll get a score of 20(or more). For your curiosity, I got good un the first four tasks and fair in the last two and ended up with 26. So 20 shouldn't be much of a problem.

Questions 2, 3 and 5 are relatively easy to get good scores on, so make sure you can ace those ones and you'll probably get a score of 20 or more without breaking a sweat!

Question 1 can be hard because it's the very first question and it can be hard to gather your thoughts for a personal response within the strict time limits. Questions 4 and 6 are difficult - the important thing is to not allow yourself to get too flustered or bothered by them (or let that experience affect your morale when doing the other questions).

:-)
