Young Red Neck
I've been living in the United States for 10 years now. 4 years ago, I took the TOEFL and scored around 105. Confident that I'll do well again, I did not prepare for the test this time.... but here's the prob - I forgot that I need to include the introduction/body/conclusion for the independent writing task. I only wrote about 290 words without any introduction or conclusion, although I feel like my ideas are pretty good and there's nothing wrong with my grammar. Given that I did well on the first writing task, how many total points will I get deducted? Is it still possible to get a 25? Thanks in advance. Lucas Fink
Writing in a block of text, with no paragraphs, definitely won't help your score, but it's not so simple that we can say exactly how much lower your score will be than it would if you'd broken up your essay into the appropriate intro/body/conclusion format. 290 words is a bit short, too, but if you used clear, correct English and communicated well, with logical relationships between sentences, you could, theoretically, score a 25. Note that this also depends heavily on how good your first essay was. If the length and structure of the second essay were literally the only problems with either essay, I'd estimate the max score to be 28. So then, the question is how good the rest was. :-) I'd be curious to know how it turns, out—do post the results when you hear back from ETS, please! Young Red Neck
My scores are out. I guess being a magna cum laude graduate at UC Davis does help, although I don't recommend writing less than 300 words. #immabeast Image - TinyPic - Free Image Hosting, Photo Sharing & Video Hosting
