yv
Hey, Could somebody help me, please? I have my TOEFL in some days, and I need to know something. When I was in England they taught me to write on an essay always the whole words, like: I do not, or I would not,... Here I always see the words in the short form, like: I don't, I wouldn't So now my question, on the TOEFL essay should I write "don't" or "do not"?? Please could you help me with this? Thank you very much:)
vertical_horizon
Yes, you should not write 'dont' or 'shouldn't'. It *won't* (:p) take much time and your essay will look more educational :). -phuong-

Erin
Yes, the basic rule is not to use contractions (the short forms) in formal essays. If you can avoid them, you should. But so many people have a hard time remembering not to do it, from my experience.
