Hi All,
I am a Veterinary Graduate seeking admission into one of the Schools of Veterinary Medicine. I am asked a qualifying TOEFL score of 220 and 5 in TWE. The TWE will be offered along with PBT and the TOEFL score asked is in CBT format. This is confusing my mind to take whether a CBT or PBT TOEFL. Eventhough the essay in CBT is exactly similar to the TWE in PBT, I am not able to decide which format of exam to take. I think I feel comfortable with CBT. Is the essay score will be reported separately on the score report of CBT? Please do help in this matter. Looking forward for your help. |

Sree,
If you feel comfortable with the CBT, take it! On the CBT your essay score will be part of your overall grammar score, AND the essay score will be reported seperately. When you get your grammar score it will be in a range, for example 12-23. This means that if your essay is a 0 your grammar will be 12, and if your essay is a 6 your grammar will be 23. The main difference I feel is that the long listening sections are longer and harder on the CBT than the PBT (in my opinion). But, overall, I think the CBT does a better job at determining your true English skills than the PBT, and so does ETS. Tino |

hi Tino,
Thanks a lot. Yeah, I heard the same that the listening section in CBT is more of a memory test rather than a listening test. I feel I am not good at listening and the score asked for my admission is 28 points out of 30. Anyway thanks a lot. |
