Okay, I read this carefully, whithout having counted time as well, I listened one time (taking notes on the laptop, which is way faster) and even though I had difficulties. As a result, I wrote it in 40 minutes ![]() I have just one comment, I hope that the writing on TOEFL will be easier ( I'm sure it will) I think they speak to fast in this audio cds. If this quesiton were on TOEFL, I would get a low score. In this set of materials, the reading passage presents two theories (consensus theory and labeling theory). The listening passage shows the results of a study done by Rosen Hans and his team regarding the labeling theory. Briefly explaining, consensus theory is related to a standard social norms and these norms can be violated due to deviant behavior – an abnormal behavior. These people who presented deviant behavior were called social deviants, while other people were considered normal. The labeling theory contradicts consensus theory. Label theory believes that deviance is not a form of behavior; however, it is a label which is dependent of that behavior. This is, people who reflect social expectations may be labeled as an abnormal behavior, which may even lead them to accept that they are labeled. The lecturer talks about Rosen Hans’ study that was done in order to analyze how the effects of labeling theory work in a psychiatric clinic. Rosen Hans used normal people who were labeled as schizophrenic, because the portrayed some symptoms. These people were in fact, reporters. What happened is that even though they behaved normally, they were still considered abnormal, due to only one symptom. Because of this, they were treated as schizophrenic. Expectations influenced the healthcare professionals. The lecturer says that other patients noticed that these reporters had no ill. Thus, the study suggests that labels can create expectations which influence treatments even when there is no symptoms |

I like your writing too.
I always use this kind of introduction for example, if it contradicts the passage I would wirte. In this set of materials, The reading passage discusses the Darwin theory by showing two examples, while the listening passage refutes these examples. this is a very short intro that is used just to present how will be the essay. the reader can have an idea that I will first give a brief explanation about Darwin theory, then I will explain these examples. After that I will discomfirm them by using the information provided by the lecturer. What score do you need for you toefl ? |

When I practice speaking for question 1 and 2, normally I prepare 3 points for each question. But I feel difficult to deliver 3 points in 45seconds. If I just speak 2 points, there is always 5-6 seconds left blank at the end.
Can you tell me some tips for those questions? Thank you! |
