I have been working with different practice tests and books and I have to say that they are all unique in their own way. Here is a list of what I have used
1)Cracking the TOEFL IBT by Douglas Pierce - This book gives great templates and good information about the types of questions and how to answer them. It comes with a CD and practice exercises (with answers) that are really helpful.
2)Inside the TOEFL IBT by Kaplan - This small book gives you almost the same information as the previous book but in less details. It doesn't have any sample tests just few exercises
3)Kaplan TOEFL IBT CD-Rom - It contains 4 practice tests and also good reference information. It provides tutorials that altought don't give you much details, they will get you through.
4)Barron's TOEFL w CD - This is my favorite tool, it has 14 tests divided by their respective section so you can practice one section at a time. I recommend this tool because it is really close to the real test.

In my opinion it doesn't matter how you study and what tools you use. To be honest when I was doing the practice test I found some topics really easy and others a little bit more challenging. I think you can never be prepare enough for a test like this since you don't know what topics you are going to get in the real test.

Hope this helps.
