Calling all pharmacists!!!
Dear collegues,
On April 16th I took TSE for the third time, I am not hopeful. I got two 45's. I am frustrated. All of you who are struggling to give this test , did you know, foreign trained physicians do not have to give this test to be equivalent. They have to give only toefl as a language test. If I am wrong , please correct me. One of my friends told me that they came together and got rid of this test. If this is the way, we can come together and protest. This test is not fair . We have to do something other than praying!! Good luck to everybody who are waiting for results... Ebru |

Re: Calling all pharmacists!!!
We can send faxes to FPGEE committee personally telling them about how physicians do not take it for equivalency or we can discuss and find another way. If we come together we can persuade them . There are a lot of foreign pharmacists in this country, at least in this group. Your spouses can be lawyers , they can show us a way.
I am open to any ideas... Thanks for contributions, |

Re: Calling all pharmacists!!!
Hi Ebru,
Many pharmacists sent the letters to Avery, the competency director. Please see my signature. We received the response that he will review my research package and will respond within 3-6 months. (From Feb 4, 2005). NABP committees review the requirements for FPGEE certificate annually. An unprofessional way of administrating the TSE and the horrible telephone- recording system are unacceptable. It is too mechanical. It is not a real world communication. Also, the inconsistency on grading system is really, really, enormously high. "The laws sometimes sleep, but never die." There was a case in Florida where a pharmacist sued ETS last month because he has never received November TSE rescore report after sending the rescoring request for 3-4 months. (Many people who requested Nov-rescoring did not receive the rescore report as well) His lawyer told him to sue ETS because the delay of score caused the loss of his job opportunities. Finally, he passed TSE last month. The rumor said that ETS did not keep the tape after a while. That's why ETS did not rescore his score. It was the rumor. I agree with you that we must do something, not just praying. I don't think that TSE should only be the option to measure one's speaking ability. IELTS should be another option. Or the state boards themselves should operate the consultation test. I would stay away from unethical ETS if I have a choice. One more thing we can do is to lobby all forty-eight Pharmacy State Boards and let them know about the problems currently occuring on TSE. If all Pharmacy State Boards do not require FPGEE certificate, TSE is not a requirement for us anymore. I encourage everyone to send letters to your State Boards to ask for personal interviews. Love, Knok ![]()

Re: Calling all pharmacists!!!
I absolutely agree with you guys. This test is weird. I wonder that how many people are getting suffered with it . We can communicate well in our workplaces but can not pass the test . Why? I think that the test is a way to block foreign pharmacists so although it is not fair but still exists. What can we say? The ETS should consider the way to rate test takers or at least the NABP should lower the passing score to 45?
I don't think so |

Re: Calling all pharmacists!!!
Believe me! ETS won't do anything. ETS doesn't care. It is about NABP people that should reconsider to open their minds to listen to those fellow pharmacists. I don't think that NABP has intention to use TSE to block foreign pharmacists. If NABP wants to block the foreign pharmacists, NABP can make the FPGEE harder.
This incident about TSE is just something that NABP has never been informed about. ETS has reputation for TOEFL but not for every test. For example, some schools do not consider GMAT or GRE scores seriously. They know that those standard tests cannot guarantee that those students who receive high scores will always do well in the programs. Knok

Re: Calling all pharmacists!!!
I totally agree that this TSE test is not a fair test.
NABP should not require 50 as passing score. It is very true that foreign educated physicians do not need to take the TSE test. A friend of mine who is a foreign born physician got her doctor liscense and she told me she feels so lucky. ETS knows that 50 is a passing score and they make it very hard to get 50. Very harsh rating standard. We should all send letters to NABP with all signatures and hopefully NABP can change the policy. NABP will hear what we say if we say it loud. Re: Calling all pharmacists!!!
Thanks for the replies,
Knok what do you say , may be all of us can send faxes to the same person, in the same time period. That can be more effective . For example next week. We can prepare a copy so that everybody can send the same format. That will give them an idea how we suffer. At least they will understand we care to change this merciless money machine. Please inform your foreign pharmacist friends, the ones that had passed too. The more we are , the more they pay attention. Thanks guys, Ebru |
