Hi everybody,
could any one help in this issue:
i need to know which is easier in the speaking part TSE or iBT??????
Check the post from oswongtm.
If you came from India or Philippine or any country where English is an official language, iBT may be a good choice. However, you must be able to retain what you are listening so that you can summarize. Those who still have problem with listening section or note taking, iBT will be a disadvantage for them.
The iBT has long lectures about 1 page for each passage. The good point is that iBT offers in every state. The bad point is that technical problem occurred on the exams all over the places. ETS still ignores the complaints. The administrators cannot help you because it is from internet based. Those sections have passed already when technical problems occurred or when you called admisnistrators for help. Nobody can help. Just pray again until the monopoly disappears.

To be honest, I don't know which one of the tests is much more easier to you. But I have a single question for you. Do you have what it takes to engage in a conversation in English for an hour or so? Do you have talent in improptus and can engage in any different conversations with boundless ideas flowing out like a river instantly? Or, are you good at summarizing stories, readings, or literature reviews? Be real and get real on your speaking ability; do some "reality checks" on your speaking skills, then probably your question will be answered by itself.Originally Posted by ttoonnyy5576
By the way, there is a British English test:IELTS, quite similar to iBT or actually iBT is the copycat of the IELTS, so to speak. Some people say that one is easy too. That is why it is hard to say which one of the tests is much more easier than the other. Know your strengths and weaknesses and choose the right test, the test works best for you. Then you can save much of the trouble. In short, iBT works for me, and I hope it will work for you too!![]()
I disagree that iBT is a copycat with IELTS. It does not even come close to IELTS because time allowed for IELTS is more flexible than iBT. The format of the questions is different as well. Moreover, IELTS offers a real interview which allows test takers to be more relaxed when they talk to human beings. The signal of how IELTS tells test takers to start talking and stopping is not beep..beep.. The question is, " Are you ready to start?"
No offense on other issues. Two of my friends got 24 on iBT but got 50 on TSE on the same month. I do not say that one is better than another. Both are bad because they are still on the tape recorder and time is really limited. These two friends spent a lot of time to be familair with the TSE already. Another friend passed iBT easily after failing the TSE over 10 times. It depends on how good your English is and what format you feel comfortable with.
For me, I wish the monopoly would disappear from this world. The boards should operate their own speaking tests asking about the subjects related to their fields, not asking about photography or political sciences. Then, the number of medical workers in this country will be enough. This will increase effeciency and effectiveness of healthcare organizations.
No offense. Be calm. There are many options in this world. Life is not just about work, work, and work. As a matter of fact, the world is beautiful but ETS makes many lives miserable. Don't let it pull you down.Set options for yourselves.

From the philosophical perspective, IELTS and iBT are derived from the same root. Their founding belief is that how well a test taker can master a langauge depends on how well they can execute their language abilities or skills (four dimensions: reading, writing, speaking and listening) simultaneously together so as to achieve the language tasks. In another word, how well the test taker executes their language abilities in performing the language functions all depends on how well the 4 dimensions of the language abilities work together. Or they call it "integration," Big Word!
Of course, from a business point of view and marketing strategies, the format of IELTS and iBT are absolutely different. The fact is that IELTS has been getting more and more international recognition, whereas TOFEL (paper and pencil, and CBT) could have only shrinkingly surviving in their mother land...and finally, ETS needs a 180 on their exam format and even sell out other peripheral test/product, such as TSE, in hopes of hoarding the market again.
That is why I still stand by my "OPINION" that iBT is a genuine COPYCAT of IELTS. However, who care whether iBT is a good cat or bad cat; as long as it helps me have attained the score that I need; it should be a good CAT to me.![]()
Magically, my old CBT score was same as yours. And you said you could engage in English conversation without problem. Based on the information you provided, I believe you have very good English foundation, and therefore, give iBT a shoot and at least it won't hurt you much, except $140 registration fee and a few hours to be seated. In addition, I would recommend the Kaplan TOFEL iBT prep book to you that you can buy it in Borders or Barnes and Nobles. I found it very systematic and still I refer back to it for revision.Originally Posted by ttoonnyy5576

Longman's iBT purpule book...a lot of exercises, which is very suitable for people who are into practice, practice and practices, quite nice, especially the simulating tests in the separate disc. However, I love to review and consolidate all theoretical parts before proceeding practice exercise, that is why Kaplan is my cup of tea, and still after the exam I can use it for desk top reference. In addition, Longman's is more expensive than Kaplan's. Hope this information can help.Originally Posted by subzer0
