From generation to generation habitual practice of daily activities is called custom. There are many customs that we follow in our country like our traditional dress, greeting people whenever we meet with a special expression ‘Assalamu-alikum’ that means ‘Peace be upon you’, joint family tradition, hospitality and so on. Though Bangladeshis are one of the poor nation but we are well known for our hospitality. Among these, joint- family is to me a custom which I believe can be followed by other countries who do not practice this tradition.

We, in our country usually live in a combined family, where all family members like parents, brothers and unmarried sisters live as one family. It is very refreshing to share personal things with nearest ones. In our daily life we confront many ups and downs. And this may cause emotional breakdown. If this happens, after returning home, sometimes agitated mind can be relieved by sharing these problems with family members.

There are many things which we can not buy. Parents give their best part of their life to raise their children. I think it is awful and somewhat inhumane to leave them alone in their old age. In old age they may become frail and need some assistance. We can not trade love and affection mixed assistance. People feel great with the association of beloved family members.

Now most of the people are self-centered. These egocentric persons tend to live solitary life. We are created as a social being. If we live seclude life there is less opportunity to think or to interaction with others. So isolation from the family or society may cause frustration and the consequence is psychological problem. For instance, according to sociological studies it is one of the main reasons for psychosis in many countries. And the results are suicide or some barbarous deeds as we can see in newspapers or others news sources.

In conclusion, if I had a choice to advocate or to pursue a custom from my country to other countries I will choose ‘Joint Family’ tradition for better living environment, for humane reason and for healthy life.
