Topic: Some believe that the Earth is being harmed by human activity.

Our world, the Earth, is about five billion years old. She is like a thousand-year-old mother who has watched the birth and the death of her kids (dinosaurs, humans, etc.). She gave us a great living space so we can feel her warmth. But, we are betraying and harming her slowly and cruelly by our activities.

The history of human is like a history of wars; however, we do not just kill the enemy during a war but also our mother, the Earth. Hundred years ago, our world turned into an industrialized age. From that time, the speed of destroying the world became faster. First, the humans began to use chemical weapons. Many countries, especially those big and strong countries, did many weapon tests, such as nuclear weapons. Every time, those countries spent much resource and time to develop weapons. Also, after a weapon test, there will be a big land that has to be useless because the chemical pollution. The land will be without lives. This is how do they waste power. Second, wars destroy natural habitat, too. Weapons make chemical pollution and burn forest and cities. People and animal lose their home because the place is destroyed and it has chemical pollution. Also, fire is a normal thing in a war, but fire burns smoke. Smoke causes air pollution. So, not just the habitat of land becomes polluted but also the habitat of air. Humans, animal, and birds lose their living space during a war. Third, wars kill animal. When those weapons (missiles, for example) hit a forest, there are thousands of animal will be killed. Not just forests but also cities. There are many people have dogs or cats at home. When a war happens, these animals maybe abandoned by their masters because people cannot or too hard to protect them. This makes those dogs and cats lose the asylum so they will usually die when missiles come. War is the only killer for the Earth, and non-recycle product is a killer, too.

People also try to destroy the Earth by cutting trees, hunting, and greenhouse effect. People cut trees or forests for their interests. Deforestation makes the Earth to lose trees every day. This causes us to face more natural disasters, such as hurricane and storm. Also, trees take carbon dioxide and give oxygen. Deforestation causes losing more oxygen. Furthermore, greenhouse effect increases the template of the Earth. People building more skyscrapers with glasses, and these glasses make the city warmer. Finally, human kills or hunts human’s best friend, animal. People kill of hunt them for fun or just because people do not like them. The number of animal is decreasing every day. Many kinds of animal are facing annihilation. The Earth is going to have less life.

Pollution is another way to kill the Earth slowly; there are three main types of pollution: water pollution, land pollution, and air pollution. One fact of the water pollution is ocean trash. In June, 2009, the United Nation reported “The world's oceans are full of trash.” This showed a fact the oceans are not clean. Trash in oceans kill thousands of fish and birds (sea-gull, for instance). A research showed that there is an estimated 100,000 sea creatures die each year due to the Pacific Garbage Dump. Not just ocean pollution but also land pollution. Although many people try to not throw trash anywhere, there are still some people do not care about this. People throw tons of trash on streets everyday around world. Even more, people throw away enough trash every day to fill 63,000 garbage trucks in the United States. Most of these trashes cannot be recycled. These things will cause diseases, such as cancer. In addition, air pollution is a big problem too; it has made globe warming. One of main reasons of air pollution is tobacco smoke. As Tobacco Control reported, “The air pollution emitted by cigarettes is 10 times greater than diesel car exhaust, suggests a controlled experiment.” Today, there is about 1.3 million people smoke. So, how fast can the tobacco smoke make air pollution? Whether water pollution or land pollution or air pollution, they both harm the Earth slowly.

In conclusion, human activities harm the Earth. We try to kill our mother, the earth, slowly and cruelly in different ways.
