I disagree that the quick decisions are always wrong. Following is my detail explanation.

First of all, because of well preparation, everyone is able to make decisions rapidly and correctly. Actually, the fear of making wrong decision comes from the lack of important information, solving and reasoning skills and training in particular circumstances. However, if people are well prepared to face their problems, they will have enough confidence to decide the best choice. My brother told me how he got the high score in TOEFL test as well as millions of test takers all over the world. If he didn’t read 4 to 5 articles per day, write hundreds of topics and train his pronunciation every day, he would never had any idea about which word he’s going to choose, idea to express and examples to reason. Therefore, with only 45 seconds to prepare for ideas, he got 28 points at speaking.

Secondly, because of circumstances, not every choice we have to decide is taking much time. In reality, scores of decisions are similar to us every day, so we can quickly make the right choice. Most of visible examples are selecting the breakfast meal when we’re driving to the company or taking the test that we have done the same before, etc. Besides, many right decisions are on the edge of life and death, success and failure. Certainly, while the plane is going to fall, the pilot doesn’t have many selection and time to stay alive: jumping out of the plane and parachute to safety or hope that there will be miracle to survive from the explosion. And I don’t think someone will decide to stay in that moment.

Last but not least, I think not all of quick decisions have wrong answer all the time. A choice may be regarded as wrong at that time but it will be right at another time. Moreover, luck is helpful in many cases. Have you ever seen the TV program “Who wants to be a billionaire?” Follow your instinct and perhaps you are luckier than the most careful person.

From all of above-mentioned reasons, I think not all decisions need to be made cautiously. Nowadays, quick decision is crucial to the world, and it will be useful if we know how to use.

P/s: I got stuck in the conclusion. Could you tell me how to end an essay in a simple and effective way? :(

my toefl is on feb'11 and i am also struggling with my essay writing. therefore, i do not know how helpful will be my comment. i read your essay a few times. you clearly mentioned your side of argument in your first paragraph which is good. however, you could add a preamble.(that is just ornamental)

your second paragraph needs more clarity (may be). it was hard for me to understand what you wanted to say. the sentence " My brother told me how he got the high score in TOEFL test as well as millions of test takers all over the world" did not make any sense to me. overall, your writing style is good.

the third paragraph is good.

need more elaboration in para four. your conclusion is okey. i also have problems with my conclusion. i just try to make my choice clear by mentioning all the points again.

i have also written the essay. if you do not mind, i can post my essay in the same thread.

Dear PhE0niX,

I think your first paragraph is too short.

You can add some sentences to make it more interesting or to catch your reader’s attention.

Here is my suggestion for the first paragraph.

There is a popular belief that decisions that people make quickly are always wrong because such decisions are usually made in a hurry and based only on intutition or emotion rather than logic or mature calculation. However, from my experience, I have found many real-life examples that lead me to a disagreement with such a belief. Those examples are as follows.

And here is my suggestion for the last paragraph.

From the examples I mentioned above, let me conclude that not all decisions which people make quickly are always wrong. From their long experience, people can learn, and when circumstances don’t allow them to think deeply or make a thorough calculation, they can rely on their experience to make quick decisions without any fault. Fact shows that experience really counts.

(Please bear in your mind that those are only my suggestions. As your fellow learner, I might be wrong and my suggestions might be inappropriate as well, but those are the best I could think of this time.)

:) :D

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? The decisions that people make quickly are always wrong.

If people get enough time before making any important decision, perhaps the outcome will be quite satisfactory. However, Sometimes, circumstances compel people to take steps promptly that are proven to be a right choice. Thus, I completely disagree with the statement that quickly made decisions are always wrong.

First of all, certain emergency situations bound people to make a serious decision without prior thinking. When it is a matter of life or death, a person never thinks about the outcome. Whatever would be the result, main concern at that point is making a choice. You might get everything or nothing at all. For example, when doing a caesarean section, a doctor seldom needs to decide whether to save the baby or the mother. At that crucial time, prompt decision could save at least one life. Moreover, while driving a car, a person always gets ready to make swift decisions because accidents can happen at any time. In that unpredictable situation, only a quick manoeuvring can save a person’s life.

In our hectic life schedule, it is not possible to pay attention to every decision we make in our everyday life. When preparing food, now a days we rarely take time to decide what to cook, when to cook, and how to cook. Store bought precooked meal or quick fixed meal menu is the solution of busy life. Yet, nobody seems unhappy with the decision as this decision is helping to save time and money.

In addition, thinking about gamblers or people who want to play with their luck, they do not necessarily make mistakes all the time. Otherwise, we would not see lottery winners. Whether you go to a casino or play the lottery, you do not get to think a lot. On the spot you need to decide the numbers. You never know whether your instant decision might win you the fortune of a life time. Not only during gambling but also during an examination your quick decision can bring you success in life. To illustrate that point, the MCQ exam where an on the spot decision can help you raise your grade.

In conclusion, a well evaluated decision has more chance to win the race. However, considering some above mentioned situations, I do not agree that quickly made decisions are always wrong.

I think there are some replacements but your vocabulary is amazing.

I've learned much from your essay :D
