Parents are the most important persons in everyone’s life. They are the people who gave us life and who are beside us on our bad and good moments of our lives. Many people would say that the most suitable advice one can get is from the parents. Although parents are the ones who only wish their children’s well, I don’t agree that they are always the best teachers. This is due to some obvious reasons such as: their lack of knowledge in certain fields, the generation gap between parents and children and last, but not least, their bad habits that influence the children’s behavior.



Firstly, and the most important reason for which parents are not the best teachers is their lack of knowledge in certain fields. Parents are good teachers only when it comes to basic knowledge, offering their children the fundamental information needed for a kid to start the primary classes. But as their children grow they acquire more and more information that is more and more complex and the parent becomes surpassed by it. To be the best teacher for your child means to be a highly trained specialist in the kid’s field of interest. And this issue is highly unlikely due to the nowadays diversity of fields. This is why specialized teachers and schools exist. For example, my best friend is a biology teacher and he has a kid that has certain aptitudes for mathematics. One can easily realize that after the primary school my best friend’s child has to be trained by a specialized mathematics professor instead of his dad. Moreover, the rapid development of information in nowadays world make the parents old fashioned teachers since they cannot keep the pace with this development, having other things to do, like doing their job, providing education for his kid, and so on. So even if you are a specialist in your field, you cannot be the best teacher for your kid unless you are an expert in that area.



Secondly, the gap between the generations constitutes a protruding impediment for parents to be their children’s best teachers. Nowadays, children have different opinions and beliefs. For example if a parent wants that his child to become an engineer in order to become successful in life, the child may have another view for this issue. He may think that he can earn a lot of money by becoming an outstanding football player than a very good engineer. Further more, some of our parents lived in different regions of the world and have suffered from different political regimes, like the communist one. This regime affected the parent’s way of thinking, and even if they try to make good things for their children, they involuntary make things worse. Speaking from my own experience I came from an ex-communist country. My parents live here and they were influenced by the system’s way of approaching and solving problems in life, thinking that does not apply in nowadays world in which the communist system has practically vanished.



Last but not least, children tend to imitate parents’ behavior and this matter is extremely important in this period of one’s life. Some parents do not realize that their bad habits are the most probable things to be learned by their children. For instance statistics show that if one of the parents smoke then the child resulted from such a marriage will have a 50% change of being a smoker. Of course this percentage increase if the other parent is also smoking. The same statistic applies to other bad behaviors like drinking, making irresponsible gestures, and so on. In addition, children that are raised in families with abusive parents have a difficult childhood. Many parents do not even realize how much hurt they can provide for their children when start swearing each other in front of them. These things will most probably have consequences on the near future of the kid, who will suffer behavior deviations when he becomes and adult. A very famous example is that of the singer’s Michael Jackson who had a difficult childhood and who nowadays behaves like a child even if he is an adult by his biological age.



To sum up, I don’t agree that parents are the best teachers because of the difference of opinions and ideas, accentuated nowadays, because they simply don’t know everything and last, but not least because they tend to have bad habits in front of their children.

Grammar looks better here. A lot better. But still there are quite a lot os mistakes.

Now I am not so sure about your ideas because I don't think that the topic meant teacher as a biology teacher, but as a teacher about life, personal qualities, people skills, and such things. I need the topic. Which one is that?

Michael, as far as removing mistakes are concerened, proof read your essay. That is why I pointed your essay too long. The ideal range for a TOEFL essay should be 250-300 words. In rare cases it can extend upto 350 words. This is for your own benefit as TOEFL essays deal with correct usage of language and syntax rules.

The 30 min is too short for writing a big essay and then correcting mistakes.
Be short,precise and meaningful in writing. By this I do not mean to be telegraphic.

TOEFL essay lays stress on language,grammar rules. The creativity comes next and vocab the last.
