When famous people such as actors, athletes and rock stars give their opinions, many people listen. Do you think we should pay attention to these opinions? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

 

 

 

On TV or public ocasions we often see famous people(such as actors, athletes, and stars) talking about all kinds of issues and make comments on them. Should we accept their opinions just because they are famous? It is natural for many people to think we should pay attention to these opinions because they are from famous people-their loved ones. However, as far as I am concerned, I advocate the opposite argument- we should not pay too much attention to opinions of famous people before we make a close examination of what they say.

 

 

Admittedly, famous people are usually experts in their own fields and therefore deserve our listening and learning. For example, a basketball player can have many good suggestions about how to do better exercise, or how to develop one's potential in sports. Similarly, a successful business man can give us many good ideas about how to set up a business or utilize various strategies to sell one's products and increase one's market share. We should learn from them, if we are interest in the similar areas as they did, and thus save our time and grow wisely.

 

However, they are not experts in other fields automatically. Being a excellent basketball player does not mean he or she is also good at mathematics or business. Hence his or her opinions on education or business should give way to those from a teacher or a businessperson.

 

In fact, the lives of famous people or celebrities are usually limited, therefore their opinions can not represent the general ideas of the public, even sometimes are misleading. For one thing, because famous people usually have their lives far from the routine lives of the general, their ideas can not reflect the reality of the lives of the public. For the other, since they have no experience of a similar life as we the public do, they can only draw conclusion based on their experience and understanding, which, will mislead us if we simply follow them.

 

Particularly in our current commercial society, many famous people have to speak for some businesses, therefore their opinions might be dangerous. Businesspeople know that famous people nowdays have higher exposure rate than anytime in history, and thereby will have more chances to influence their fans or the public. With these in mind, they try all ways to invite famous people into their advertisement, talking about their products and business. For example, we can see easily that a movie star talking in commercials about their use of some products, and probably in fact they never use them in his or her life. We are falling into the trap of business if we just follow what these famous people are saying.

 

In summary, we respect famous people for their achievement in their expert field. However, without careful thought, we should not accept their opinions on everything, especially these things they are not familar with.
