Topic 100:

Some people think that governments should spend as much money as possible on developing or buying computer technology. Other people disagree and think that this money should be spent on more basic needs. Which one of these opinions do you agree with? Use specific reasons and details to support your answer.

Governments across the globe are facing a similar situation like arms race which existed a decade ago. Now the arms have been replace by computer technology which the governments have realized has much more potential than acquiring arms and ammunition. I disagree that such a race be undertaken by governments worldwide.

The technological advancements in computers have raised its capabilities to influence many spheres of life but it cannot in anyway be justified to spend more money on their technological development and its upliftment when the world still confronts grave issues like poverty, hunger, epidemics and the presence of underdeveloped countries.

An underdeveloped country firstly has many serious issues which are of supreme importance than acquiring computer technology. For example if a government of a poor country spends money on acquiring sophisticated computer equipments on the name of national development, it would face severe criticism. The financial resources of such a country are expected to be spent on upliftment of the living conditions of the citizens.

On a global scale it is the duty of developed nations to help a poor one on humanitarian grounds. I by no means want to state that technological progress be hindered but it should always be done keeping in mind that we have one world and the underprivileged people are our brothers and sisters. Help from developed nations will result in making our world a better place to live for all. Taking an example people living in various countries of african continent will not be benefited if a ground breaking discovery is made in speech recognition systems but will surely be if a grant is given to them.

To conclude i would say that technological development is necessary but not as much as it is necessary to make the world a better place to live for all humans. World population can only participate in technological growth if it enjoys a minimum standard of living being still deprived to many. The role of governments weather belonging to same nation or others is a big one which can shape the way in which our world will move and their policies should be made in such a manner which supports both technological development and upliftment of worldwide living standards.
