#121: Some people trust their first impressions about a person’s character because they believe these judgments are generally correct. Other people do not judge a person’s character quickly because they believe first impressions are often wrong. Compare these two attitudes. Which attitude do you agree with? Support your choice with specific examples.
_____________________________________ __________________________________________________ _______________________ Many people trust the soundness of their first impressions about a person’s character. I contradict this viewpoint for the reasons I will point out hereinafter. First of all, a person’s appearance and attitude that are initially engraved upon our mind are often influenced by that person’s mental status. Thus, their nature is probably different from what they showed off at that time. My girlfriend, for instance, appeared to be an insipid and arrogant girl with a range of sharp-tongued and flat words when I met her the first time. After a long period keeping contact with her, I figured out that her feeling of disappointment due to sad news in her family converted her become like that. Genuinely, as time goes by she expressed her modest and sensitive character that made I love her so much. After that time, I wholly believe that my first impressions about a person’s character are undependable. Besides, a person’s appearance and attitude probably change with his/her social environment in which he/she lives or works. Take my father as an example. He is a teacher and he is known as a deadly strict one in his university. However, in my family, he becomes a gentle father of my brother and I. A lot of his former students visited him at our home and acknowledged that their first thoughts about my father were quite distinguished from their senses of his benevolent nature during their studying years. Therefore, in my opinion, to make judgments about one’s character I have to get in touch with him for a rather long time and in different environments. In conclusion, I disagree to base only upon the first impressions about a person’s character to judge of him. A cautious consideration after several times of meeting and talking with him under different circumstances helps me make accurate judgments about that person. _____________________________________ __________________________________________________ _______________________ HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY This is my first essay in the New Year. Dear all, I fininshed the following essay in given 30 minutes and I made some revision before posting it.
I feel it is hard to compare the two attitudes, can somebody give some comments on the essay? Tons of thanks. 121. Some people trust their first impressions about a person's character because they believe these judgments are generally correct. Other people do not judge a person's character quickly because they believe first impressions are often wrong. Compare these two attitudes. Which attitude do you agree with? Support your choice with specific examples. As we all know, the first impression is very important and it always gives people the most deeply influence. Although the first impression can tell something about a person's character, it is not that reliable. In my point of view, I will not judge a person's character quickly from the first impression because I believe that first impressions are often skin-deep and misleading thus I need further observation. To begin with, those who always trust first impressions about a person's character are misleading. There is a Chinese saying: we cannot judge a person by his appearance. That is, the appearance is not always telling the truth. One of my neighbors is a good-looking girl who seems appealing. I thought she was warm-hearted and willing to help others. Nevertheless, after personal contacts with her, I find she is bad tempted and particular with peels, thus do not get along with others. Moreover, a judgment from first impressions is too hasty. The judgment of a person's character should be careful because it affects not only two parties. With different culture backgrounds, different people have distinct impressions on a given person. Suppose you think a girl with short skirt is misbehavior, while I believe she is open-minded and energetic. Therefore, without further communication or observation, you cannot persuade me to share your view, neither can I. Last but not least, first impressions are always made on purpose and they are not worth of trust. For example, in a recruit meeting, a girl wears neatly and shows much respect to every people. In fact, she is pleasing every one for the position. However, in the second interview, we find she is too flattering and not considerate. In this case, further contacts give us more accurate information about her character. From all the discussions above, I could safely arrive at my conclusion that although the first impression can tell something about a person's character, we should not trust it and take it for granted that it is correct. It is more responsible to make further judgments and leave the first impressions as reference. |

Essay 121: Some people trust their first impressions about a person’s character because they believe these judgments are generally correct. Other people do not judge a person’s character quickly because they believe first impressions are often wrong. Compare these two attitudes which attitude do you agree with? Support your choice with specific examples Generally, it is believed that first impression is the best impression because first impression is very important and it influence people to approach him or her. But in my opinion, first impression is often wrong because a person can make an impression based on the environment, social influence and mental status. Firstly, the ******d appearance and the way of talk may initially attract a person to approach him/her. But one cannot judge one's character and nature at first acquaintance. For example, when I met my friend's friend she was well groomed and the way she was talking was so sweet that any one in the world would make friendship with her. Initially I felt comfortable with her, thought that she was helpful and knowledgeable. But after several acquaintances, I learnt that my judgment was wrong. Secondly, a judgment from first impression is too hasty. First impression about a person's character is generally misleading. A person may act depending on the situaition. For example, a person attending interview for a sale position would appear to be knowledgeable about the subject and to be confident. Even though, he has no knowledge about the product or about the position. In conclusion, based on the reasons above, I disagree that first impression about a person's character is correct. I believe that a judgment about a person should be made with careful consideration and several acquaintances. |
