    Unhappy U.C. Davis Appeal

I am also appealing to UC Davis. I was wondering if a letter of recommendation is required? I have been at three different colleges, so contact with teachers to get letters of recommendation may be difficult. Can anyone else besides a professor write a letter of recommendation?Trabsfer students appeal deadline is May 13th, Freshman was in April.

I don't think letter of recommendation is usually required but it's good for a teacher or professor to document your special circumstances. For example, if you have extenuating circumstances that may have affected your academic records, you can explain it in your appeal. For example, death or chronic illness of parent or sibling (maybe you did poorly only in one semester or year and improved dramatically afterwards; letter from professor would be helpful), extreme financial difficult that required you to work a full time job (in this case, an employer that can testify this to be true would be helpful) or outstanding achievement such as running a successful business on the side...

Anything that can explain your less than stellar academic record (including learning disabilities) or testify that you are more qualifies and mature than your numbers (GPA, SAT...) show. Good luck! I'm not an expert but I don't mind proofreading your appeal if you PM to me. I'm a prospective Ph.D student and went to a UC for undergrad.

Hi, I'm an active member here in the TestMagic forums and believe it is a very powerful tool. In giving back to this community I would like to offer my own consulting services for those individuals that have questions or concerns regarding University of California admissions process.

    My background:
    UCLA B.S. Mechanical Engineering 2001
Admitted Fall 1996 to UCLA, UC Davis, UC Irvine
Rejected from UC Berkeley, UC San Diego

I was initially rejected from UCLA, but appealed the decision and was rewarded admissions Fall 1996. I can answer any questions regarding this process and help those individuals who wish to try the appeal process.

I also have my own website, which contains more information regarding the application process and has an interactive forum so you can talk with other students that have similar backgrounds.
