Applying US (F1-visa) from UK (PSW)

    Hello there,

I have done MSc from UK. I'm on psw now.

I'm planning to go to US on F1. Got admission in WIU.

Is anyone applied in the similar way? What could be the VO questions that might arise here? which embassy is best for applying?
Probably you might take any of your own ideas into consideration. I would appreciate if someone helps in responding to this post.

    Please advice.

    Thanks and cheers.

My advice depends on one question. Do you ultimately plan to settle in (US or UK)

    If Yes

If there is a path of getting permanent residency in UK with psw (I don't know much about UK immigration), I strongly advice against coming to US.

US does not offer a path to immigrate for students and it is forbidden for students to have immigration intention at all. The available path (f-1 to H1b to GC) is very uncertain. It is also becoming more difficult and depending on your country of birth, you may be backlogged for five years or more.Besides UK have many positive aspects than US.

    If No

When getting a US F-1 visa it is always a calculated risk. In your case VO might view your move from UK to US as immigration intention because a UK MSc should land you in any good job available (SO why do US PhD or whatever). Important thing is to show that you are a good student above anything else. If you are fully funded(TA or RA), have good grades for your MSc and have good standardizing scores (GRE 1100+, toefl 100+, etc) I'd say that your chances will be near 100%. Be informed that having US citizen/resident relatives or previous overstays will almost always result in rejection.

Be presentable for the interview. Good luck.

    Hi Maveen,

Thanks allot for your quick response. I only want to improve the financial position of our family. Obviously not to settle permanently.

I have done MSc(control electronics) in UK - just passed -not good scores. B.tech(60% - 2 backlogs), GRE - 930(Q-670,V-260,AWA-2.5), IELTS -6.0 (expired) will be exempted as I hav 2yrs course in UK. And nearly 2 yrs of exp as a HR assistant in some small company.

    If Yes
    - As UK rules has tightened and there's is no better scope here.

    If No
    - I wish to go for US -as its better than here. And there is some chance in gaining some experience for couple of years after MS(willing to pursue in computer science - as it has better opportunities and good scope. I'm the first one to US from our family.

would you suggest any further things! I'd appreciate if you could share your contact info.

    Thanks in advance.

BTech. Hmm... I Guess you are originally from India.

Improve your family finances?Couple of years of experience? How do you plan to do these things with a F-1 visa. Remember you cant work full time with f-1. F-2 dependents cant work at all. If you plan to do so remember that you may be putting you and your family's safety at risk (on top of being illegal). I knew a guy who worked off campus with f-1 (illegal), only an employer in the bad part of the town was willing to take a risk. That guy got shot when his work place (a store) was robbed and died.

On top of that, how can you gain couple of years of experience. A phd is at least 4yrs after Msc. You cant do a second masters (well with an Indian MS you can as it is considered substandard to US MS). You wont be given a visa like that. Even if they did, it is a total waste of time and money. Also this indicate that you are not a genuine student (you have other plans in mind). Plus your record is less than impressive (Well it might not have been significant if you were a genuine student, I am not judging you but the collective effect is not good). A VO will look through you very easily.

I am afraid you are just trying to turn from one dead end to another.I'd advice you to try to migrate to Canada Aus or NZ (relatively easy immigration). If money is all you need, work in Middle east ,Malaysia,(or any available place). Its more sensible.

You need to provide documents of your properties, bank account etc in order to prove them that you won't get settled in USA.

    Hello,
I have applied for f1 from london embassy, i attended the visa on 30th july, my visa got approved. I want to share my visa interview experience, it was really very simple but we should be very confident and have your voice bold, loud and clear without any shake in it, she (visa officer) didnt checked even a single document not even my education certificates, before you go to V.O. counter for interview your finger prints will be taken by calling your token number given to you when you enter the embassy, after that will be asked to wait until your same token number is called again for your interview.
NOTE: No mobile phones or any other electronic good alowed inside embasyy and there is no room to store them, there is a passport photo studio available in the corner next to HSBC bank who will charge £5 to store your personal goods, but its worth to have some one accompain you or leave them at home.

    here is how interview went,
    V.O. Hello good morning,
    ME. morning, u all right!!??
V.O.I'm fine, can I verify your finger prints have your left hand on the reader as shown first and then right hand please.
ME.I'm fine, but wather is awful (and gave my finger prints again and completed)
V.O.What is the purpose of your visa (tricky one, she know I applied for f1)
ME. Applying F1 visa for doing MBA
V.O.Why you chose that particular university?
ME. It has good feedback from many returning international students, and one of the good universitires in that area.
V.O. Well, who is funding you?
ME. My parents, always they are!!!!! they have got no choice I am their only kid and they have to!!!!!!!
ME. Can I ask you a question, how long will it take to complete the interview??
    V.O.Yes.
ME. How long will it take to complete the interview?? My interview was scheduled at 11:30 am and it is 13:00 now already 1:30 mins late, I really have an important meeting to attend at 15:00.
    V.O. Couple of minutes!!!!
    ME. ok (with puzzled face)
V.O. Have you ever applied for usa f1?
ME. No, this is the first time.
V.O.How long you have been in UK?
    ME. 3 years 13 days!!!!!
V.O. Can I get your passport, I can approve your visa, please give your details to the courrier office next to the exit door!!!!
ME. Thank you V much (and rushed from that place)
