R U JEALOUS? Tell me.
k, here's how my interview went...
Girl: so... you're going to new york, right? Me: yeah Girl: do you know anyone there? Me: no Girl: why did you choose it then? Me: my choice was based on the academic system, and that school has one good for my major. By the way, I like your necklace, it's cute. Girl: Thanks, but let's stay on the subject of the interview, are you planning on working in the US when you're done with college? Me *tries his best to not tell the truth*: Of course not! I have many tries to my country, you know what I'm saying? Girl: ok you're approved, come pick up your visa next week. Me: really!? oh thank you! you've made a wise decision. Have a good day Girl: Good bye they didn't ask for my admissions paper, my financial statement, my toefl score, school transcripts, my relations, what my parents do, nothing! |

Re: R U JEALOUS? Tell me.
You should attach a photo of yourself so we could could see why you had it so easy.
![]() But more important--from what country??? Call me skeptical, but I can't imagine that you'd be be able to get the visa without the bank statement or offer of admission. |

About the admission: I assume the I-20 alone is an offer of admission, it has a SEVIS Identification number, which I assume they will be verifying and checking with the University within the next week (till I get my visa) It's my opinion that people who get rejected are more likely to post on forums, because people who get accepted just move on (except I have lots of time on my hands, so I had to share - lol) So people shouldn't be nervous before going to an interview of this nature, because it only works against you. |

Well, the disheveled look has been popular for quite some time now. Perhaps you struck a chord with the consulate. Props to you! ![]() Yes, the I-20 should be enough to show that you've been admitted. But you're right--it's much harder for some countries than others. BTW, your English seems pretty danged good (at least from your writing). |

![]() Roger, Did you aswer all the officer questions in your native language? No, the officer was American. Are you allowed to do so? Well, I assume she doesn't speak Arabic, so I didn't have a choice. From what I know, you need to speak English, because if you're going to study in the US, they need to know that you're proficient in English (especially since TOEFL doesn't test your abilities to speak the language). By the way, i can't believe this interview took place in the Arab Emirates... and Yes, officers are harder here in Latin America. Believe it!! It's kind of ironic how they became very strict after 9/11, but those "strict measurements" were only applied in India, Latin America and practically all over the world except for the land of terror (Arab/Muslim countries). Ok, I'm being politically incorrect, but you know what I mean. Let me tell you something Roger; The officer will ask you about ten questions, but all those question revolve around only two concerns: 1- They're afraid you may not be able to pay your tuition. Solution: Bring all financial statements and proof of liabilities (house, cars, etc) and assets (bonds, stocks, real estate, etc). 2- They're afraid you may stay in the US after college. Solution: Show your bond to your country, your family, your friends. This is very important. The US has a green card lottery system where they practically "give out" perminant residence to 50,000 random people all over the world every year, but when you're being interviewed by an officer, he/she will interrogate you to make sure you're going back to your country. They know that almost 90% of students who study in the US stay there... It's pretty ironic, I know. Play along though, otherwise your f-1 visa will be denied on the accounts of "potential immigrant". |
