REALLY IMPORTANT: file your taxes!!!

Hello!

Most of you guys here should be with international student visa status. So you MUST file federal tax returns. It does not matter that you did not have any income, you still have to do it. IRS (Internal revenue service) will do nothing to you, but if you will apply for a green card, officials might ask you for your tax returns... So, for your own sake do it!

I am not an expert of all this, but generally international students have to file forms 8843 and 1040NR EZ. The deadline is April 15, so do not wait too long.

Not just International students, no one should take IRS lightly. However, if you have not filed your income tax report by April 15, you might file for an extention by April 15 and file your income tax report later.

Yeah, everybody should file, but international students usually do not know that they MUST and do not know how.
So be aware!

Frankly speaking I am not clear about this thread. What are you all talking about? Do you mean international students who will start their programs have to file returns??

Hi!
International students who were present in the US at least one day during the tax year (for now it's 2004) must file tax returns. So if you just plan to go tu the US don't worry, but remember this for the next year. Or if you just came in 2005, don't worry too. But if you came in 2004 or earlier - worry

Yes, any international student who comes to US to study must file income tax from the year the student has entered US.

But an international student can not work immediately, how can he file his returns. He is on F1 and enters US for study .I suppose this is when you are on H1B..

Secondly, am I right to infer that int'l students who are on RA/TA have to file returns.

Again, I am confused beacuse of hearing of this for first time.

Is this a new law or an exsistent one? Seriously, I am hearing this thing for first time. Anyway, in which univ. are you and whats your stream? Mind , if i ask you, Are you on an internship?

1. Any international student can work immediately at the university in which he or she is enlloded under student employment.

2. Yes, RA/TA have to file income tax in US.
