suspend study for one semester - visit on a Touristvisa

Hello,

I am currently on a F1 student visa.

Question:
Due to a case of Family Emergency I have to suspend one semester. Even though I have to go back to Europe, my boyfriend is staying here. Therefore I have the following question:

Is it possible to re-enter the US for short visits? on a tourist visa. or will my F1 visa than be invalid. an example would be as follows
JANUARY 2004 LEAVE U.S.

- enter US (on tourist visa, visiting boyfriend for 1-2 weeks)
- leave US

- enter US (on tourist visa, visiting boyfriend for 1-2 weeks)
- leave US (on tourist visa)

JUNE 2004 RE-ENTER US, to resume study.

It would be great if you could give me a short answer to my question.
