Is it a good idea (or is it a common practice) to give your recommender your SOP? I am done with a serious draft of it, but I am not sure if its smart to send it to my recommenders. In general, what information should we give to our recommenders?

typical and basic info is:

gpa
gre scores
school list with deadlines
statement of purpose / short bio + interests
CV if you have a masters
names of your other recommenders

Why should I give the names of my other recommenders? I am just curious...

do you guys finish SOP way before the deadline. What if I finish the SOP in the last week. Should I still give the draft to my recommender?

All that, really? I was just planning on palming each of them a c-note.

Theorem 4.1-3: harry's comment = haha.

if you give them the list of the other recommenders:

1) they wont feel like they are sticking their neck out for you,
2) they can coordinate their letters,
3) and they can give you better advice.

number 3 can really pay off:

One of my letter writers told me plainly that I needed to find at least one big name recommender, and that I hadn't yet. He told me who I should talk to, and where his letters would count the most. It was awesome.

My recommenders have my current SOP draft, grades (unofficial), and CV.

Lemma: Not haha ==> not Harry Lime's post.

What if they don't know each other? I'm pretty sure that of four recommenders of mine, only two have ever met each other (only those two are in the same department). None of them ever asked who else would be writing me letters and this didn't seem to concern them.

Usually we write different SOPs for different universities. Shall I send all the different versions to the recommender?
