i just want to know how far we need to prepare for these 2 topics:

stats:
i think we need to cover
Measures of central tendency (mean,median,mode)
Measures of variation (range,variance,std.deviation)
Measures of position (percentiles,quartiles & deciles)

should we also look into
1)weighted mean ,percentiles,quartiles & deciles
2)normal distribution
3)co-relation,regression

or any other thing which i should cover....

probability

i think we got to do
1)counting techniques
2)probability( sample spaces,addition rules, multiplication rules)

do we need to do
probability distributions like multinomial,poisson,hypergeometric
or any other thing.

Advanced Math, such as probability distributions and transforms may safely be ignored for the GRE prep. Most math questions deal with fundamental high school topics and general data interpretation problems. The ETS Powerprep probably is the best guide for Quant section and the kind of questions in this material seems very similar to those appearing in the GRE.

so likewise i need to do just basic statistics.
another thing,the powerprep thing that u mentioned .........
r u talking abt the s/w that one gets when one books the exam??

Exactly. Basic statistics should be quite enuf. I hadnt come across any questions asking beyond standard deviations and Variances in my GRE, although there were rumors that the new GRE pattern brought in changes in the math section as well, especially regarding advanced statistical subjects. So nothing to worry abt them ;)

As for the powerprep stuff, I referred to the CD that is usually dispatched after registration. The material is quite commendable.

Cant pinpoint exactly. But I suppose the basic equations for lines, circle, ellipse, and so on might be sufficient. I'd suggest looking into Kaplan and Princeton material as well for more ideas abt the questions.
