the drug which gives the false positive 5HIAA is glyceryl guaiacoalte and it is found in many cough syrups and usually also other drugs that increase it is phenacetin,acetanilid,methocarbamoland reserpine.

drugs that decrease its measurment is TCA,mao inhibitors ,promethazine,heparin,levodopa,and isoniazid .

food that interact also is bananas,avocados ,eggplants,walnuts and pine apple.
and the 5hiaa ia a serotonin metabolite excreted by the liver and u sed to detect some carcinomas . hope that helps .
