View Full Version : A question about sending GRE scores electronically

11-30-2007, 06:15 PM
I am applying to UC-Davis. And it is stated on the website that GRE scores have to be sent to them electronically, rather than by mail. But when I was requesting additional score report from ETS on the phone, I didn't have the chance to specify that. Does anyone know how to do it?? Thanks!

Interesting question, I didn't notice that they said "electronically" reported...I just sent them my GRE scores like any other school: call ETS and ask for a report sent. I have no idea how ETS reports scores to schools but ETS doesn't offer options.

Another serious question: On page 4 of the application, they ask for your GRE scores. They have 3 sections, one is titled "Analytical". They don't have a spot for "Analytical writing" and I think there used to be a multiple choice section of the GRE called analytical.

Here's my point: Their site (http://www.gradstudies.ucdavis.edu/programs/program_detail.cfm?id=32) says
Please note: Applications will NOT BE CONSIDERED if (1) the GRE Verbal score is less than 60% (for international students, if it is less than 30%); or (2) the GRE Quantitative score is less than 70%; or (3) the GRE Analytical score is less than 70%; or (4) for international students, the TOEFL score is less than 600 points (or less than 250, if computerized TOEFL exam)
Soo...if you have less than a 70% in AWA you won't be considered? Or are they talking about the old score?

Ok I just talked with them. The quick answer: That website I linked to is wrong, they only have minimums for verbal (60% domestic, 30% international) and quant (70%). They don't really care about the AWA, and most people usually have a 4 or 4.5.

Regarding electronic submission of GRE scores: it's a mess with ETS. You can't specify electronic submission on the automated phone service, so you need to email ETS to ask for it specifically. If you put Davis down as one of your schools when you took the GRE, then you're fine. ETS sends electronic reports to schools who you marked during the exam.

Update #2: I just called ETS (1-609-771-7091, from this site (http://www.ets.org/portal/site/ets/menuitem.1488512ecfd5b8849a77b13bc3921509/?vgnextoid=21a7cebac5bb5010VgnVCM10000022f95190RCR D&vgnextchannel=d72f46f1674f4010VgnVCM10000022f95190 RCRD)).

They told me that they send scores whichever way an institution has asked for. So when you go through the automated service, they'll send some paper reports and some electronic reports, depending on what the institutions asked for.

Now.... Davis told me that ETS has been telling people different things regarding this. Soo who knows what's going on. There doesn't seem to be any way of verifying how your scores were sent. *sigh*

Yes, this is a real frustration. Davis is the only school I have seen that is asking students to contact ETS with this specific request.

I faxed my request to them and noted that the scores should be sent to Davis electronically. Then I emailed them to repeat my request -- better to be annoying than to have a problem crop up later.

Good luck to everyone else on this one.

Hey guys! Which ETS email address did you use? I tried to look for one on the GRE website and haven't found it. Thanks a lot!

Here's the best I could find:

Questions and Comments for the GRE Program (http://www.ets.org/portal/site/ets/menuitem.1488512ecfd5b8849a77b13bc3921509/?vgnextoid=e2450403eb285010VgnVCM10000022f95190RCR D&vgnextchannel=0ffc46f1674f4010VgnVCM10000022f95190 RCRD)

I don't know who'll read it or if it'll help, but there you go.

Quick update on this:

The ETS people wrote me back, saying that Davis already receives everything electronically anyway. So I'm not sure what all the fuss on the Davis site is about, unless there's something going on that we're missing...

Yeah, that's what they told me on the phone. I'm just going to believe them and not worry about it anymore. I mean, there's not much more we can do.

that's a relief to know.. thanks guys

In case anyone still reads this, I just called ETS. Apparently each university requests how it will receive your scores (either by mail, electronically, on CD, or multiple of those forms). If an institution wants their scores electronically, then they likely requested it be sent that way and you can just order the scores normally online on the ets website. :)

what's UC Davis's deadline? I thought it already passed.
