At a business school, such as HBS, to get a Business Econ Phd, how much math is needed on your transcript?

I know they accept less than the econ dept. but what are the other differences?

I don't know how things work at Harvard, but normally, business school students take the same first year courses as people in the normal econ PhD programs, so I would say their preparation should be about the same as for normal economics PhD students. Now, Stanford's GSB Economics department is actually considered one of the top places to study theory, so I suppose they might have even tougher informal math requirements than the regular economics department at Stanford. However, the economics program at Stanford GSB is an exception. Generally, since the business school economics departments focus on more empirical research, having too much advanced math on your transcript will probably have a minimal effect on the selection process.
