Anybody have any other dates for flyouts this year?

UT Austin: March 28 (from this thread (http://www.urch.com/forums/phd-economics/85307-ut-austin-whats-next.html))

I saw on your profile that you got admitted to davis. i did too and was wondering about flyouts also. i'm assuming since you're asking about flyouts that you don't know if and when davis is going to have them. do you think we should email and ask, or just wait?

Virginia's is on March 21st (Friday). Anybody know if UC Santa Barbara historically has had a fly-out?

Did anyone e-mail Ohio State about this?

Also, is it advisable to visit a school before the fly out. In all reality, it will be improbable that an applicant would be able to make it to ALL flyouts.

You are correct, I have no idea when flyouts are for Davis. I also haven't asked. An e-mail might be useful, since they probably have the date, even if like Austin they don't have a final schedule yet. Although I am shy so I probably won't be the one to send it.

In my experience, UCSB does not have a formal open house, however they do offer flyouts.

For Davis, I know I wasn't offered anything for fly-outs...they are historically very low in the fiscal area. Best of luck being offered aid packages, they are hard to come by from there

for OSU, I forgot the date last year but they only offer reimbursement to American citizen. I remember the DGS telling me that they could at most work something out for my flight ticket (i'm an intl student studying in the US)... or they could pay my room and dinner only...Anyway, hope that helps.

Duke's flyout is Monday March 31st and Tuesday April 1st.

How did you find out? Is there an arrangement for foreign students? What usually happens at these flyouts?

How did you find out?

I got my official letter in the mail today. It mentioned the visit day. It said they'd pay for accommodations, local transportation, food, and up to $300 for travel expenses. I'm domestic so I don't know about those visiting from outside the country. I imagine the best you'll get is that $300, but who knows.

They didn't say anything about what would actually go on during the two visitation days.

Oh, I don't recall reading about you applying and getting into Duke! Congrats! Is there a list of places you applied to somewhere? And are you still considering Duke?

Did anyone e-mail Ohio State about this?

I emailed and got a reply from the DGS (Miyazaki) saying they are planning a flyout for the first week of april, but are still working out the details. He said it should be announced next week.

It seems NWU is also the 4th.... weird. Maybe my date is wrong. I would have thought it would have been on diffrent days.

There are only so many weekends in late March/early April to choose from. I imagine they do some amount of coordination to try to stagger. Even then, it isn't obvious what the optimal arrangement is. For example, should Harvard and MIT stagger their flyouts so people don't have to choose between them, or put them on the same weekend so people only have to fly to Logan once?

It makes sense to me that Chicago and NWU would put their days back to back, so maybe there is just some misinformation? I guess we should wait until more NWU letters come out.
