Thoughts about www.urch.com

I still remember that day back in I guess what was about 2002 (the year). I had the idea of adding a forum to the TestMagic website, thinking that it would be a great way to interact with people. I was running a simple website that I had built with Microsoft's FrontPage (I knew literally nothing about websites when I started building testmagic.com), and at some point, FrontPage offered a very basic forum feature, which I installed. To my surprise, it was an immediate hit--it got something like 50 posts overnight, which I considered a success.

I quickly outgrew the FrontPage forum, and found Snitz forums, a project that was then in its heyday. I met a lot of great and helpful people there, and started tinkering with the code of the software. Again, we outgrew that, and moved to vBulletin, which we are currently using.

Fast-forward a few years, and we now have about 100,000 members and 800,000 posts. The forum has been a lot of fun, but there are many things I've wanted to add to this site for quite a while. For one, I'd like to add a way for people to stay in touch with one another--basically social networking for our site. I've seen that a lot of people make good friendships on www.urch.com, meet up off-site, form study groups, and much, much more. I've added some functions to www.urch.com to help this sort of thing along; these features look promising.

I've always wanted to add some tools to help people keep track of the stats of people applying to college and to graduate school. I will most likely have something custom-coded for us, as I'm not aware of anything available out of the box.

For today, however, I've upgraded to the latest version of vBulletin, which includes this nifty blog function. It also has a gallery, which allows people to upload images.

I hope our members like and use the features. Let me know what you like and don't like; I'll do my best to listen. Also, I find it very motivating to hear people tell me what they would like to see in the forums, so don't be shy about asking. :)

Erin,

Can the s/w provide a way(menu option) to directly go to a sub-forum. For ex: if I am in GMAT PS forum, can I have a menu option that I can navigate and go to GMAT SC forum directly rather than going to the GMAT forum and then to SC forum.

Thanks

Oh, sorry I didn't see this! You can do this (if I understand you correctly). At the bottom of the forum, you'll see a menu called Quick Navigation. Try that!
