Firstly, I think these "the" are not for "same" ,but for the nouns followed. Secondly, we can use "same" without "the" in some case. e.g. -Happy new year! -Same to you! 2)"books of the same size" is common usage. why not "the same size of the books" "Books of the same size" emphasizes the books.
