Suzana
A nation should require all its students to study the same national curriculum until they enter college.Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the recommendation and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, describe specific circumstances in which adopting the recommendation would or would not be advantageous and explain how these examples shape your position. I agree that a nation should require all its students to study the same national curriculum and I also think that the curriculum before entering college should be very similar even internationally. The advantage of having a common curriculum is that, in this way, we provide the means to compare students from different schools by a common measurement system. It is useful grouping them by their level of knowledge. In this way, during college, the teachers will be able to customize the teaching process in order to accommodate better to the class level; for a class with greater grades the teacher can use a faster pace than for a class with lower grades. If the same class has both very good and low average students, it is harder to accommodate the level of material presented: if the exercises are harder the students with lower grades will have a hard time understanding them, while, if the exercises are very easy, the good students will get bored during the classes. Another advantage of a common nation wide curriculum is the flexibility it provides for a student in choosing its specific area of orientation in college and undergraduate school. If the curriculum is customized for a given job profile before college, students can make a bad choice about their profile and it will be very difficult if they want to switch for example from a science oriented profile to a humanities oriented profile or the converse. The age in high-school is appropriate for this kind of mistakes because pupils have not met yet the real life problems, it is an age of confusion. I can't think of any reason why it would be better to have different curriculum before college and, hope in the future we will have not only an international common curriculum but also the same grading system. Students from different parts of the world will be able to understand, study and work together for the good of mankind.
