    (E) The mass of a star, after passing through the red giant stage, will determine whether it compresses itself into a white dwarf, a neutron star, or a black hole.
    It is not the mass of a star that is passing through the red giant stage, but the star itself. So, the subject should have been "the star" whereas now it is "the mass".

    First I chose E and then read again and found that 'the mass' cannot be the subject. And option D correctly use the subject 'the start'.
    Hence D.

    Option B seems to have redundancy......... ambiguity because of "it and its" what the first 'it' refers too??
