lindakey
A. Cog : wheel B. Pick: ice C. Bit: drill D. Pulley: rope E. Wood:screw I picked A, because my sentence was "a saw has many teeth", so "a wheel has many cogs" fit best. but the answer the book (Princeton Review, 2010) gave was C. their sample sentence was "teeth is the cutting part of the saw". I don't see how their sentence is better than mine. Any pointers? Thanks!!
annabel398
A "wheel" is not necessarily a "toothed wheel" (or "gear"), though, so A is not the best choice. My sentence would be: "TEETH are what makes a SAW work."
lindakey
Thank you so much Annabel! Your explanation made a lot of sense. I see how your sentence is much better than mine. Thank you!
HopefulAcademic
I was thinking more in the lines of function. The teeth of a saw allow it to cut into objects. The cog allows the wheel to be functional but it does not perform a similar task as the teeth on a saw. But I am a noob.
