dekardar Posted November 5, 2015 Share Posted November 5, 2015 I cant seem to get my head around these questions.Can somebody please provide a detailed explanation of these questions? 1.Pump A can empty a pool in 8 minutes.Pump B can empty a pool in 6 minutes.Pump A pumps the pool for 2 minutes before pump B joins in.How may minutes will it take to empty the pool together? 2.Working alone jerry can complete a work in 6 minutes.Working alone ,Adam can complete a work in 8 minutes.Working together,Jerry leaves the work after 2 minutes.How long will it take Adam to complete the work? greprepcompany Posted November 8, 2015 Share Posted November 8, 2015 Assuming the pool has a capacity of X (whatever the unit is), pump A take out X/8 every minute, and pump B can take out X/6 every minute. Pump A does the work for 2 minutes first, and take out X/4 in the first 2 minutes, 3X/4 left in the pool Pump A and B will take out (X/8) + (X/6) = 7X/24 combined every minute (3X/4) / (7X/24) = 18/7 minutes Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
