Nad
What skill are you having trouble with? Thanx a lot for the reply. I did Ielts in oct 2012 & got 7 for all except writing. It is the difficult part for me. And also can you please guide me with this? I don't know what to do. Do I need to get 7.5, if I am applying for F1 programme? I have a letter from the Dean, confirming that I have completed the studies in English. Is it possible for me to give that for excemption when applying for F1? GMC didn't accept it as I am graduated in 2009. Please help :( thnx a lot
gunay1
Hi shahji Recently i passed IELTS exam and got 6 points(General Training). Please help me to get more and improve my English. Here is my essay. Please correct my mistakes and how much points i can get? Compare the advantages and disadvantages of 3 of the following as media communicating information.State which you consider to be the most effective. I choose books,tv,movies. There are different sources to get information and to use it in appropriate way.We watch TV,read newspapers and books, listen to the radio,go to the theatres and etc.All these activities allow us to gain more and detailed information about themes which we are interested in.But if I talk about the benefits of getting information with help of various sources, thus there are some of them which I consider most effective and use them frequently. Firstly I would like to emphasize that books play a vital and essential role in our life.I can't imagine one day without them, simply because i tend to use vocabulary or other resources in order to fill in the gaps in my knowledge. As a source books are very important in our day to day life. But there are some disadvantages of using them.People whose life is very intensive and they have hard working day everyday, they really are tired of reading or doing something else.Such people prefer to watch TV in order to release their pressure after hard working day.But generally TV helps us to be informed about all events which take place in our life. Moreover watching Tv,we got knowledge about different countries, about it's habitat, about history and etc. But there are also some dimerits of wathing TV.In my opinion some programs should be restricted or eliminated at all, because they could have negative impact on people's behaviour and on society in whole. This is not only one reason which reflect the disadvantages of using TV.Moreover watching TV during a long period of time causes damage on person's health. It can afflict eyesight and therefore leads to bad consequences.Compare the advantages and disadvantages of books and TV I tend to take more attention to enlightening with the help of books.I consider, that books, journals, newspapes, and various interesting articles can be more essential and beneficial than television programmes. But some people prefer to watch films instead of reading books about the same movies. In other words people become lazy, they persue one aim -to watch that movie which is very popular among youngsters. They don't want to realize that the very essential way to get information about new story is to read the book about this story.I consider ,that the books contain more comprehensive and detailed information about facts and events which may will not be shown in the film. In conclusion ,i would like to highlight that different resources of media have as merits as well as dimerits of using them.So every person should act in accordance with his/her willing using some of them. Nad
Hi Nad, I don't know much about visas, I'm afraid. However, I might be able to help with writing. Post an essay and I will tell you if there is any obvious reason why you did not get a 7.0. Mike Hi Mike, Thanks a lot for your kind reply. I really appreciate that. This is the recent essay I wrote. Please advice me on what I have to do to improve my writing. I am waiting for your reply. Thanks a lot again Nad A large percentage of ex-prisoners reoffend shortly after being released from prison. What do you think are the causes of this? What steps could be taken to try to reduce the reoffending rate? It is no doubt that after committing serious crime, criminals should get punishment for the misdeeds they have done. As a punishment they may often sentence for many years in prison. So the law abiding people in society may relieved by assuming that they may be safe after criminals being punished, hoping these offenders will reform after spend years in jail. But in certainty, due to release on parole and rejecting by the society may often cause them to reoffend crime, soon after their release from prisons. We must acknowledge that prisons attempt to rehabilitate the offenders during their sentenced period. But in the reality these criminals may apply for parole and may release before even end of their sentence. Therefore prisons may fail to rehabilitate them and these criminals may continue to commit an offence shortly after being released from the prison. Secondly, even after release by the end of the sentenced period, ex-offenders try to re-enter to society and try to be a better person. But actually they often become victims themselves by unable to find work and incapable of having normal family life and often rejected by the society. This will soon cause the ex prisoners to commit crime again and end up in the prison all over again. As a solution, many people believe that offering more severe punishment like corporal or capital punishment will solve this problem. But as a humans idea of beating and executing someone is repellent to human being. Instead of that, charge them with large sum of fine or offer them to community service are better alternatives to reduce reoffending rate in the society. However I prefer not to rough only on the criminals but on the root of the crime itself. We should spend less money on lawyers, police or whoever work on the legal system and put the money instead of supporting deprived areas which are the breeding grounds for crime. These will help to reduce reoffending rate in the society in future. Edited February 5, 2013 by Nad
ielts2u
Hi Nad, There are two obvious problems. One is easy to fix and the other more difficult. First, the essay has no conclusion. You need a final paragraph to summarise your ideas and make a final comment. The final comment could be a prediction in this case. The second problem is the grammar and vocabulary. There are too many grammar mistakes and the idioms or phrases you are using are too often incorrect. Go to an IELTS teacher in your city for a few weeks and they will quickly correct many of these mistakes. Regards, Mike
