I have heard that the government is planning to open several new branches of IIM s which I believe might just reduce the value of a PG degree from a reputed institute like IIM.

Yeah, I agree but it is also important that the candidate should meet the minimum aptitude test score requirement. That’s also important. It’s only after you clear the aptitude test they’ll consider you strongly.

Re: Indian B-Schools accepting GMAT scores???

An MBA from India through the GMAT route was, till about a decade back, an exercise in futility. At that point in time, ISB (Indian School of Business) Hyderabad had just about begun offering its renowned PGP program, and the most popular route for getting an MBA in India was to get one right after graduating from one’s bachelor’s program through the CAT route. Appropriately, almost all students with GMAT scores in India chose to go abroad.

Check out the list of Top Indian B-schools accepting GMAT scores here:

Re: Indian B-Schools accepting GMAT scores???

Many schools in India such as ISB, IIMs, Great Lakes, etc. accepts GMAT for admission to MBA Program. However, IIMs accept GMAT for only One Year MBA Program, which is popularly known as PGPEx (Post Graduate Program for Executives). PGPEX requires minimum 4–5 years of work experience. There is no sense of comparing admission through GMAT and CAT, because both are for different courses.

If you are fresher or having work experience of less than 4 years, then you will have to go for 2 year MBA Program, which require you to write CAT Exam. If you have more than 4 years of work experience, then you may go for One Year MBA Program, which require you to write GMAT.

ISB require minimum 2 years of work experience.

In terms of difficulty level of CAT and GMAT, I believe both are at same level. GMAT may have harder Verbal Section, while CAT may have harder Quantitative Section.
