U at Buffalo's PhD admission offer without fund: Need Help!

Hi Guys,

I got admission offer from U at Buffalo in Management PhD program on April 13. In the email they said that "Unfortunately there is no aid being offered at this time.". I did not completely understand what they mean,

1-They did not decide about financial aid at the time of admission decision. or

2- There will be no financial aid at all, or

3- This offer is just a polite rejection, (I mean everyone knows that PhD studies without aid is ridiculous.)

I know that each department of UB School of Management offers full financial aid package to only one admitted student, in every year enrollment.

Should I contact with the program's director for more information, or I must wait for their decision about aid? Do you know anything about their process that help to get aid? Is there any chance of fund or

Best,

VP

I know that some schools like SUNY Buffalo and FSU are not big name schools, but they have good niche programs in terms of specific fields. They are known to take in applicants without funding their first year, but if you work hard and prove your capable, you'll have funding in subsequent years. From what I can tell, schools may not consider you their top applicant, but they think you may have potential and want you to prove it first. I would pursue other options if possible, but if this is your only choice, then take a hard look at what you want to do, is it worth it to take a gamble your first year. Best of luck.
