    Having a Math degree

    Sponsored Ad:
Is it worth investing one more year to have a math degree?

I am currently an economics major + math minor.

I will be taking most of the relevant math courses (calc12, lin alg 12, ode, pde, analysis12, real anal, num anal, topol12, etc.).

However if I invest one more year and take those less important math courses (algeb12, appliedmath, complex anal, geometric calculus, etc.) I can receive a B.S. in mathematics as well.

Would it be worth it to put in my time and money into getting a double degree in econ and math? or is just a minor in math enough?

    Nah, you're fine.*

    * as long as "calc12" includes what's typically called Calc 3, i.e. multivariate calc.

Spending an extra year is not worth it.

Usually the trade-off is between spending your last electives on applied math / abstract algebra / geometry courses vs field courses in economics. I've usually suggested the latter for students who had no trouble with real analysis. But there's no reason to take an extra year for such coursework either way.
