therealslimkt
What kind of value an undergrad can provide as an RA to a theorist? It seems like most of the typical data related tasks don't apply to theorists. Do theorists ever hire undergrad RAs, and if so, what do they do? mathenomics
To provide one data point: I went to a top 10 institution, and the theorists I've talked with unanimously said that they don't hire undergraduate RA's. (I've talked to around 8, before realizing that my time is probably better spent looking for RA work with empirical economists instead)
chateauheart
Generally, theorists don't even hire graduate student RAs unless they're doing an interdisciplinary project with the other half being behavioral or experimental.
mathenomics
The only exception I've seen is if they want to run a simulation with a structural model, they occasionally hire RA's to write up code simulating their theory.
