EconHelp24
Any response helps I just saw this forums and it seems like many ppl have amazing applications compared to mine.
startz
(1) Where has your program sent students to before? (2) You need to gently ask your letter writers how strong their recommendation will be.
EconHelp24
Thank you I will do that
Double Jump
I think your likelihood of getting accepted around rank 60 and up is good. May I ask what parts of micro and econometrics research you're interested in.
EconHelp24
Matching and market design, panel data, industrial organization. Thanks for the response! Would it make sense for me to hold off on applying and take extra courses/ research?
Double Jump
It kind of depends, quality of matching and market design and IO does fall off a lot around that ranking. Both of those topics do require more of a theory foundation and I'd say it'd be expected an applicant that wanted to go that route would have more math classes. pulsars
Given your profile, and provided that you're serious about graduate school and research, I would recommend holding off applying and work as a full-time RA somewhere. This way you can ensure that you will have stronger rec letters, a real analysis class, and a graduate econ class from a more reputable school on your transcript. EconHelp24
If I go this route that you suggested would it significantly improve the level of school I am able to apply at? Also does the RA last a year typically? Thank you for your answers really helpful!
EconHelp24
That makes sense what other courses besides real analysis would be advisable before applying?
startz
RA often lasts two years. That's in part because applications are due in the Fall when you haven't been an RA long enough to get a letter of recommendation. Most RA positions require some computer skills, Stata or R or Python.
EconHelp24
Ok thank you I am proficient in R, Python, SAS, and Stata so this could be an option thank you you!
