    Program No Longer Offers Field

    Sponsored Ad:
    Hi everyone,

I recently started a PhD program that offers a couple fields, one of them being macroeconomics and money, which I love. However; they lost a big faculty member this semester and they say they donít have enough interest now so they are going to stop offering the field. What would you suggest I do in this situation, given it was the field I was hoping to specialize in??

Almost all schools offer at least one macro field course. Given that you're in your first year, you shouldn't worry too much about it. Worst case scenario, you can always defer some of your field requirements to 3rd year, in the event it still isn't offered next year. Highly unlikely they'd go 3 years without offering macro field courses.

Go ask the department what plans are for macro in the future.
You might also ask the faculty member who is leaving for advice.
