lemonpee
I found out on this thread that schools often have a TOEFL cutoff (higher than the 100 that is advertised) using which they auto-reject applicants. That thread's respondent is a top 40 AP, and he/she says they use 105-108. Is there something similar auto-reject filter at the top 10? If yes, what is the cutoff like? chateauheart
Based on a few international friends' experience with applying to top 10 programs, I believe it's unlikely that these departments systematically use TOEFL as a filter (above and beyond their university requirements). If you have a TOEFL score above 100 but below 110, I'd simply suggest applying to 2-3 more programs than you were planning to. A few programs *might* filter you out, but this practice won't be correlated with their program rank. Your eventual outcome should be approximately the same. There is no need to retake the test.
