  1. Fulbrighterpak, If your award is for 2 years (e.g. towards a MS/MA degree), you are required to stay for 2 years in your home country being subject to J-1. However, if you stay more than 2 years in US via a different financial source after the end of your award, the time period for staying at home is still 2 years.
  2. Thanks Footloose! THe selection process is exactly how you describe except this: Principal and alternate candidates are determined out of the interview and they are directly sent to the USA. So, after interview there is no other selection process. Then, the ultimate aim is to find the best university which fits to the candidates profile to realize the replacement. The deadline for application was mid July in my country, and it took nearly two months to be called for the interview and after the interview it did not last more than one week to get the final result.
  3. Shoaibakram I hope everything goes well and you get the scholarship, too!!!
  4. Hi friends, Is there anyone among us from the State University of New York, Stony Brook? I got an admission and I am in need of detailed info about living expenses, accomodation, climate and many other things there from people with first-hand experience. Any piece of information would be great for me right now!
  5. Hi Sapient, I have misunderstood you, sorry for that :) Yes, you are right that after completion of the study, I have to leave because of the type of visa given to me, i.e. J-1. As far as I learnt from the Fulbright Commision, the placement procedure is left to IIE ( Int. Inst. of Education) after we make our choices. That is what I have told today :) Thanks for your msg. Hi Nevena, Thanks for your kind words! First of all, Fulbright offers scholarship for MS/MA degree in US not Canada. To be eligible to apply for the scholarship, there are certain prerequisities, like GPA which should be above 3.00 out of 4.00. However, this does not guarantee that you will be invited for the interview. There is a pre-selection on the basis of paper application which includes transcripts, letters of references, personal statement and essays on research objectives, social activities that you have involved and excellent command of English. After pre-selection, you are invited for the interview and then the final decision is made. The application procedure may differ from one country to another. In my country, senior students can apply before their graduation as well, since Fulbright send the scholars the next year. Pls contact with the Fulbright Commission in your country so that you could get more healthy and detailed information. If you have more questions, I would more than welcome to answer them. Good luck!
  6. Hi Sapient, Thanks for your msg. I am from Turkey and as far as I know we are supposed to turn back our home country after two years if Fulbright does not approve the extension of your studies in a PhD programme. However, we are not expected to serve for that two years. At the time of my application, that is what I did know. Do you know about the placement process and what the scholarship covers exactly?
  7. Hi friends, I have been selected as a Fulbright scholar to have a master degree in U.S. and, I do not have any idea about what the following procedures related with placement etc. are after being nominated, and what the scholarship eaxctly covers. The only information source is the fulbright's website. However, it is not informative enough and there is a long time for the informative meeting. Is there anyone who has experienced those procedures and could share those experiences? I would kindly ask for his/her guidance. Thanks in advance!

  9. IMHO "tension" is an uncountable noun and therefore the following sounds better: "Social tension is a normal element of group life."
  10. Hi Ivo, You are right! Speaking is extremely important in psychology esp. in clinical area. And what is more important is that in clinical setting cultural borders are passed with that tool. That's why most of the programmes admit students with scores higher than 270. TOEFL isn't comparable to GRE of course. In this case maybe I should delay it as far as I could and first retake GRE. And then after preparing the necessary budget for TOEFL, I could take it again, too. Indeed, my speaking could be considered fluent but unfortunately TOEFL -the current version does not measure it! And schools require TSE which means another exam and extra money spent:mad: Maybe the new version will be better... What about you Ivo? Have you taken the exams? What is your plans for future? ;)
  11. Hi Thande, Thanks for your feedback, too. I compare the application process to what is said in social sciences :zeitgeist -spirit of time!:grad: It is such a strange process; you should knock the right door, with right clothes at right time:D So I am trying to minimize all negative outcomes possibilities. The reason why I am still questioning to retake exams (from now on only questioning about TOEFL:p) lies in the fact that I begin this process with limited resources. Last year I had to work together with university schedule to create the necessary financial budget for the exams and it is a time that I really do not want to remember and experience again:crazy: Now the same stiuation applies here. Anyway, nothing is easy isn't it?;) As far as I remember from your posted msgs before, you are also applying to German Language and Literature (I may be wrong:hmm:). How is your application process going?
  12. Hi friends, Thanks for your pampering words! The point is that to get into clinical psychology phD programmes is highly competitive and that's why I have doubts about the sufficiency of my scores:rolleyes: Most of the entering students have GRE scores higher than 1300 and TOEFL higher than 270. As I need financial assistance in the form of TA or RA to go on higher education, I consider it so serious. It is true that all PhD programmes provide students with financial assistance however, because of this highly competitive nature of these programmes I am worrying...
  13. Hi friends, Attraxion and Ivo, I am grateful to you for your encouraging feedbacks! They really motivated me a lot!! Indeed, at maximum I have only month left to retake GRE. Last month I started to have a look at Barrons' list and now I could say that half of the word lists there seem more familiar to me:D In this case, yes I will retake GRE but what about TOEFL? Do you think that it is sufficient, or should I also retake it? Yes, it is above 213 but do I need to make it higher to maximize my chances? I know that I sound as extremely cautious:( However, most of the top universities expect publicationsand I have no publications yet. I hope that until the time that rejection/acceptance letters came (April) I may have one. Did you attend to GRE and TOEFL? What are your plans?:) P.S: Attraxion sometimes I also question why I am so insisting on higher education, esp. after seeing many job opportunities! You see it could pave the way for an upward mobility in social terms.I have a lot of work experience during my undergraduate education because of financial difficulties. And what I realized is that no matter what the conditions, payments would be, work life in private sector will not satisfy me:) This could be named as inherent motivation I do not know:D
