Hello, My lone acceptance this season was into a MA program in economics at Fordham without funding. Should I go? I was crunching the numbers, and its going to cost something like 50-60000 dollars to complete the degree. I have one MA in statistics and it has not paid off. I am still currently paying off the loan through temp work. I want to go back to school A) to avoid the job market, and b) I really want to study economics but I just dont think its worth 60000 dollars. I cant imagine graduating in this lousy economy and being saddled with that great amount of debt. Maybe if this was an MBA in econ from somewhere like wharton or an MPA from Columbia I might go, but Ive learned that terminal MA programs are not respected in the real world. What does everyone else think?

Hello, I have a question about the Applyyourself online grad school application. I applied to a masters program at one school two years ago using applyyourself, and now, I am applying to the same school but a different masters program. Does anyone know if the Applyyourself app stores my information from two years ago? In other words, does this school have data and information from me sitting in a database based on the applyyourself app I filled out two years ago? Thank you

What Master programs are worth applying for?
prusd replied to CandleInDark's topic in Graduate Admissions
Hello, The tuition alone is around 16,000. If you add in housing, books, transportation, and food the total cost will be around 30000. However, its only a two semester program so you are done pretty quickly and able to apply to top Phd programs. I dont know anything about the University of British Columbia. -

Try quantitative methods in social sciences program at Columbia. Only two semesters, not a lot of money, and a lot of graduates of this program go onto PHDs at top US universities. -

Applying to Columbia? -
I think Columbia has a good MS in stats plus you can take courses in finance (I think)
-
Columbia has a solid media and marketing program.

Thank you so much limitless. Yea, I was lonely in February when everyone was getting their admits and congrats on this forum, but the wait was definitely worth it.

Thanks Bruce. I think its easier to get a Phd with this Columbia degree than find a job although many alumni from this program do find jobs. Here in America though, having an MBA is a better ticket to a high paying job.

Im from New Jersey.

Thanks, eseraph. I wasn't expecting to get in because they said they had more applications this year than they were expecting for this program. Then I got the letter and said, Wow! The Ivy LEague wants me.

I was accepted into an Industrial Psychology program at NYU. I had to take the GRE.

Thanks! I've been waiting a long time to take this victory lap.

Well, I might be the last one to post their results but I just found out today....IN AT COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MA in Quantitative Methods in Social Sciences. This is unbelievable. All this with a GRE score in the mid 1200's. Batted 1000 this cycle. Sure is an improvement over my undergrad applications. Time to party.[banana] [banana] [banana]

Is it true NYU's MBA program does not like to admit students who attended its undergraduate universities? Thanks
-
Still waiting for Columbia. I expect to hear from them next week.

Isn't that book plagiarized?

Congratulations :D . How did you find out?

Yes PCG, for four years. But I can't do anything with a BA. Reactor, I thought you were against MA in economics?

Hello, If I am interested in finding a good job in NYC, should I accept an offer to study an MA in economics? Thanks
-
and I'm in...MA in economics. Although after reading through some threads here, I probably won't be attending since an MA in econ is not that respected in industry.

A word of caution for those of you considering a MA/MSc in Econ

I would think so, pan123. -

Thanks for the post reactor. I will take your tips to heart. -
I think if you write your school a letter explaining the situation, they;ll let you attend the other school.
