  1. Applied to 7. Haven't heard from 5.
  2. What I can understand from the email is that you have got admission to the university without any aid. Thus, you have to decide between "Aid" and "Department". Do you really want to major in CSC or aid is more important for you?
  3. After University of Maryland (January), another reject yesterday from University of Pittsburgh for MS in EE. Tomorrow, I am attending an orientation session at UVA, lets see what that brings. I am really counting on UVA. Anyone else in the forum planning to be there at UVA tomorrow?
  4. Hey congratulations. What is your area of study?
  5. - Did anyone hear from UVA about the one day orientation session on March 3rd, 2006? - What preparation does these sessions require? - Also, did anyone get into ECE program at UVA? Thank you.
  6. Today I got an email saying that I have been invited you to attend a one-day orientation session at UVA on Friday, March 3, 2006. This will especially allow faculty to consider me for financial support based on research opportunities in their respective labs. I have a few questions, does anyone have an idea what kind orientation would it be? Will there be a one-to-one interview or a general informal talk? What kind of preparation does it need from my end? My senario is little different from rest of you because though I'm an international applicant, I live in Charlottesville (UVA campus) and have already met with most of the professors in my area of interest here. Any help is appreciative. Thanks.
  7. Wow thats a great news. Let me go and inform my younger brother. :)
  8. I think Ohio State University. Does anyone know about the overall ranking of this university.
  9. University of Maryland, College Park Program: MS in Electrical Engineering Deadline: Feburary 1, 2006 Reject: January 24
  10. Send them a copy of best recent work, e.g., a paper or a project. Tell the admissions committee about additional information which not included in your application.
  11. but the major problem is the character limit. 500 characters are like 4-5 lines and its hard to say everything. Also, in some universities there no other place to write anything else. NO SOP EITHER.
  12. You have a fair chance.
  13. Thats really a very nice score Noesis. Congratulations.
  14. Thanks man with the mission, yunas, and Noesis.
  15. Omshiv, 3 months are good enough to prepare for GRE. However, it also depends on your level of preparation right now. I guess, its not necessary to prepare from new edition as they usually do not include anything new. However, I would recommend you to check both the editions. If you do not see any difference, you could ignore the new edition. Start with Barrons. Try to complete word list in a month. Do not try to mug up from the very first list. In first two go's just try to read the complete list and mark the word you are fimiliar with. This should not take more than 5 days. Read it again and see if you remember any new word. Along with the word, read strategies and do practice exercise in Barron's both for quantitative and verbal. Try to complete Barron's in a month. On the last day of the month take a PP test. But do not look at the right answers because you would be able to extract complete benefit otherwise. Check your performance and then you could follow the steps that I mentioned in my previous post.

  17. Thank you aditi, bscout and look_hd for your wishes. And all the best if any of you are taking test in near future.
  18. I guess there is no need for a retake. Retakes are useful only when you could improve your score by 80-100 points. Your score is great, Congrats.
  19. I got few personal messages regarding my GRE preparation, so though I must share with you all so that maximum people could benefit from it. This is how I prepared for GRE. I prepared for 6 months. Though, I was consciously learning words from barrons for almost 10 months but my real ordeal started in June. In the first month, I started stressing more on vocabulary and on quantitative. Completed Barron’s tests, 10th Edition ETS 7 tests, and Math section from ETS SAT book. Took Powerprep test on the last day of the month and scored 370 V and 780 Q (keep in mind do not look at the right answers after taking the test). Next month I started with GRE BIBLE and test magic. I took almost like 50 tests in one and half month, rather until I started getting 650 and 800. However, I never stopped doing vocabulary. I did Barron's wordlist at least 10 times and Bigbook list 5 times. Also, read 2-3 novels in between. Again, took PP tests 540V, 800Q, and 560V, 800Q. That boosted my confidence. Then 2 months before the test my computer broke, so started with ETS tests again, until then I was working on computer. My average score of the entire test was 540V and 760Q. When my computer was up again, I took Cambridge tests scored 610-640V and 710-750Q on the entire test. One month before the test, I started drilling Powerprep. Took around five test on both PP1 and PP2, score started touching 680 (I knew right answers to many questions then). After that, I progressed with Korean tests. Got the printout of all the tests and started solving each paper at least twice depending upon the number of questions wrong. Again, the average score was 540V and 780Q. However, came across many new words. In the same month, I had to prepare for TOEFL - iBT as well. Nevertheless, my gre preparation had helped me a lot. I started working on Powerprep again 5 days before the test. My highest score was 750 on Verbal. I was optimistic on getting atleast 580 in the real test. However, for me my actual test was a quite different from the tests that I took before. I saw many new words, but I guess when you have really worked hard and have a positive mindset things automatically work out for you. I guessed on most of the questions. Quantitative was very easy but since was getting very easy question I started spending more time on questions assuming I may have answered some questions wrong. Therefore, ended up guessing on some at the end. In addition was little stress out of my bad verbal section. This might be responsible for 790 on quantitative. Oh yes, between my 6 months preparation I did complete Kaplan verbal book, Princeton review, number2.com, 800score and Acro guide as well. So for the future test takers I would say continuously work on vocabulary for verbal. Solve as many test as you can, this helps you in getting used to with the test pattern and style. For me following are the useful sites, software and books in descending order: Powerprep Test magic Korean test and ETS tests (Bigbook, wordlist as well) Barrons (wordlist is very important) Kaplan Number2.com GREBIBLE Cambridge software ARCO Vyomworld.com 800score tets This is all from my side. But everybody has to make there own way of success. Remember, success is never an accident and ETS is forgiving (you may get 14 wrong in verbal but still score 640, provided you get all first 15 correct).
