  1. Is there anybody can help me? Guys, I will take GRE test within two weeks, I really need your help.
  2. Hi, Guys! It is the first time for me to write a AWA, and the essay costed 45 minutes, 15 minutes more than given. However, I need your advice, and plz rate the job if possible, thanks! 225The following appeared as part of a letter to the editor of a local newspaper. 'During her three years in office, Governor Riedeburg has shown herself to be a worthy leader. Since she took office, crime has decreased, the number of jobs created per year has doubled, and the number of people choosing to live in our state has increased. These trends are likely to continue if she is reelected. In addition, Ms. Riedeburg has promised to take steps to keep big companies here, thereby providing jobs for any new residents. Anyone who looks at Ms. Riedeburg's record can tell that she is the best-qualified candidate for governor.' In this argument, the author claims that Ms. Riedeburg is the best-qualified candidate for governor and therefore should be reelected. To bolster the claim, the author points out that crime has decreased, the number of jobs created per year has doubled and the number of people choosing to live in the state has increased. To support the conclusion of the argument, the author also points that Ms. Riedeburg has promised to take steps to keep big companies in the state. After careful scrutiny of the argument, I find the statement suffer from several logical flaws and therefore unjustified. First, the argument unfairly assumes that the fact that crime has decreased, number of jobs doubled and more people choose to live in the state are due to the merit of Ms. Riedeburg's policies. Although the fact seems support the claim that Ms.Riedeburg did good jobs and was capable to be a governor, there are no direct evidence that all the accomplishments result from any policy adopted by her government. Without ruling out enough evidence to support the assumption the argument can not convince me that there was a relationship between all of these fact and Ms. Riedeburg's capability as a governor. Second, even if there are enough evidence that the state benefitted from Ms' Riedeburg's policies during the past three years, it is not necessarily suggest that there will no other candidates will do better than Ms. Riedeburg. It is entirely possible that there are some other candidates are more capable as a governor. For example, those who worked for police maybe more capable in decreasing the crime to a extent for lower than now, those who have an experience in enconomic rearch seems more likely to creat a larger number of job opportunity, and so on. Without except the possibility that there are others more fit for the governor position, the conclusion that Ms. Riedeburg is the best candidate is dubious and unconvincing. Thirdly, the fact that Ms. Riedeburg has promised to take steps to keep big companies lend little support to the assumption that the companies will stay and provide more job opportunity to the state. On the one hand, there is no evidence that these steps will act because the argument provide no evidence about the popularity of them among big companies. It is entirely possible that the big companies do not welcome these policies and are not willing to stay. For this matter, the capability of Ms Riedeburg is unjustified and the conclusion is out of reason. One the other hand, even if the steps will works, there are no evidence that Ms Riedeburg will actually carry on these steps. This scenorio are entirely possible because we have known from the argument that they are just promises. It is entirely possible that Ms Riedeburg will not fill the promise for some reasons after being reelected. For this matter, the asumption that the reelecting Ms Riedeburg is worthy to improve the enconomy will be unreason. In sum, the argument commits severial logic flaws and unconvicing. To better the argument, the author should provide direct evidence that the state have benefitted from the govenment of Ms. Riedeburg during the past three years, and the author must exclude the possibility that there are other candidate more capable to govern the state. To better assess the argument, I would have to know the popularity of the steps among big companies and the stability of Ms. Riededurg’s government.

I am interested in chemstry program in Columbia Univeristy, Cornel University, Ohio State University, Purdue University, SUNY Stone Breek, and University of Michigan. I wonder whether the score will be enough to get a PH.D admission with finical aid, or in another word, whether the score will hamper the opportunity in my application to the universities maintioned above?

  11. I graduated from Dalian University of Techology, China. I have an excellent GPA record in my undergraduate and master degree career, and as the first author, I have published my paper on a good journal (IF of the journal is above 2.4, according to 2004 JCR). My TOEFL score and Subject score in chemistry seems ok:610(61/61/61/4.5) and 870/92%below. However, my General GRE score seems upsetting: 410/800/3.5(V/Q/A). My aim is to apply a PH.D program with full finicial aid in Chemical Engineering or Material Science. Should I retake GRE test? And which class university should I apply? Can I apply the top 50 univeristies in US or just the top 50-100? Thanks a lot!
  12. Thanks a lot, actually, I have a 800 score in quantity. But my verbal and AW scores are low. I wonder which one require a relatively lower score in Verbal and AW.
