  2. Hi Folks, Though I took the test last month (Nov 22nd) I just did not come about to post on this forum. I have compiled a word document hope its useful. PsychoD
  3. Sorry for reviving this old thread but just was curious. What is the number of rights in each section to get a 800 ? And what about 790/780/770 ? How much does a 51 in quant warrant ? BTW I bumped into some info on Abraham Thomas here: http://www.iitb.ac.in/~insight/issues/new/vol4iss8/iitian_tokyo.htm I know of a guy in MIT Sloan by the name Raghu Subramanian who had an 800. And I am sure though it is not that rare, it surely is not 80 people are rejected by Stanford each year with that score  Arun
  4. Are such arcane and esoteric formulae ever asked in the GRE? IMO this is the resort for the formula dependent testers, who wish every problem in the GRE can be solved by merely using a formula. Unfortunately there are no cookie cutter solutions to get that elusive 800 in quant. An application of concepts and mind would yield the answer without having the delve into the depths of such formulae. Arun
  5. Hi Friends, Looking for some help in knowing what is going on wrong with my scores. Some background about me. I took GMAT in a half-baked attempt some 3years go and ended up with a 640 (Q47 V31). I rate my verbal skills far better than what my scores might reflect. I came back from a self-imposed sabbatical to take GMAT again this year (November 22nd) to apply for ISB - 2006. This is the scores so far from the 5 tests that I have taken so far (my prep started sometime 3-4weeks ago): PR1 : 650 Kaplan 1: 710 PR2 : 640 PP1: 730 Kaplan 2: 700 As my friend remarked on hearing my Kaplan scores - "Either you are going to crack GMAT big time or the software is screwed up" :) I have a couple of questions to ask: (a) I have the tests from PR 2005 edition which are really screwy because they show an id number on top. The higher it is, the harder the questions get, which is actually quite unnerving when you are taking the test. But more than that, the scoring pattern is buggy. I ended up getting 8 wrongs in one of the tests and it gave me a 40 raw score in quant  Is this the same Princeton Review most people say is a cake walk ? (b) Is Kaplan the same tests that I have ? The "Higher Score" CD which has the swanky car dashboard showing the roadmap. I have this CD from around 2002 (really old). If yes, then how come I am able to achieve a 700+ with such consumate ease ? (Infact in the last test I took a 10min break in Quant only to appallingly click away on the last few questions and worse still - commit the cardinal sin in GMAT by leaving a couple of questions UNANSWERED) © This is an age old question, but I still am looking out for the answer. Though the initial questions might have more weight attached, still, what is the penalty for loosing out on say 8 out of the last 10 questions ? Considering you have very few mistakes in the first 20 or so question (This is what has happened to me in each of the tests I got a 700+ in) (d) Is there a greater penalty in getting a string of wrong answers ? (as opposed to getting every alternate question wrong). I mean a string of say 5 mistakes instead of 5 wrongs out of 10 questions. Thanks for the patience in reading through this post. Hope to get some helpful advice. Arun
  6. I can see that business_knowledge has tremendous determination. But what you might lack is "general awareness" of the apping process. I would seriously advice you to do the following: (a) Spend free time surfing sites like testmagic, scoretop and more importantly www.businessweek.com/bschools to get an idea (b) Buy the Richar Montauk book on application to bschools © Use google generously. It is not paid afterally ;) to search for the websites of top bschools and proceed from there. There should be a conscious and active process from your side to seek knowledge, and from what I have known of the internet in the last 8 years, it will yield. Far beyond your expecations. Once that is done, you might want to visit specific threads and ask pointed questions which require expert advice. HTH, Arun
  7. My test date is 22nd of Novemeber (5pm - 9pm) What I have/intend to cover: ---------------------------------- (1) Kaplan GMAT 2005 (2 GMAT full-lengths) (2) Kaplan Verbal Workout (3) Kaplan 800 (4) Princeton Review (4 GMAT full-lengths) (5) OG - 1400 assorted questions (10th edition) (6) Sumeet's Verbal Notes & other resources/notes from the net (7) 1000 SCs & CRs (8 ) Scoretop JJ's for September - October - November (9) Manhattan SC (10) Powerprep Tests (2 tests) (11) GMATprep Tests (2 tests) (12) GMAT sets from Scoretop (20 sets) Basic Approach: ------------------ (A) My intention is to rotate each test area into 3-4day pieces. So 3days for DS, 2 days for CR and so on. Within each of the test areas I will go through all of the material mentioned above, whereever applicable. (B) Take (or atleast aim) for ATLEAST 1 test every weekend. Preferrably along with the AWA to test patience\stamina. Would be taking it in the same time frame as the GMAT - 5pm to 9pm. Here is the plan starting TODAY. The nomenclature will be a count down for the number of days remaining for the GDay. There are 64days left as of today. Now let me split the absolute essentials while going through a given topic. This would be the steps of doneness i.e. I would consider an activity over only if the following things are completed: (1) All Questions from OG For more clarity, I am splitting it into sets of 50questions The number of questions in each category is: a) PS - 441 b) DS - 274 c) RC - 285 d) CR - 205 e) SC - 268 My aim is to finish them in blocks of 50questions (time around 1.5hours) so I am numbering them as (truncating it off to the nearest 50): PS1 to PS8 DS1 to DS5 RC1 to RC5 CR1 to CR4 SC1 to SC5 (total of 27 sets) (2) All Kaplan material I read through the Kaplan Verbal workbook and really liked it. I heard great things about the Kaplan800 book too. Also the Kaplan CBT that I have is very interesting (the road map one). So I think an ideal way is to go through the following: (a) Kaplan CBT for relevant portions (b) Kaplan800 for the same © Kaplan Workbook (incase its verbal) I am not planning on anything from PR except reading it leisurely sitting on the throne everyday for about 15min for general gyaan. Primarily because it would be an overkill for me to do everything. Same applies to stuff from the net like 1000 SC/CR, Verbal notes etc. They would complement things rather than supplement it. Just sharing the plans with you guys. Arun
  8. I am yet to take it so you might want to listen to me purely from a logical perspective. Here is my take. These are the 2 biggest pitfalls I see: (1) The most cardinal mistake you seem to be committing is presuming that the amount of study material you finish is directly proportional to your score. Though more practice does make a man close to perfection, you might end up burning out. Plus what the heck will a billion easy questions help you ? I mean at the end of the day if you are solving more questions like "Length of a rectangle is 10 and the area is 60 what is the breadth?" it will just aid the process of you getting frustrated easily. (2) 1 year is too big a gap. I mean I am already worried sick if I can maintain my enthusiasm beyond 2months and you are multiplying it by a factor of 6 !! :hmm: Try to be realistic and set a date and work towards it constructively than spending a year directionless. HTH, Arun
