  1. Sorry friends, "A" still doesn't seem an appropriate answer here. "A" says "They have no gas". If you don't have left any gas, You cannot keep driving. You should stop your vehicle. But, in the dialog, they still keep driving. I think that rules out "A".
  2. Thanks for the replies, pals. That is more clear now. But, Erin, Do you have any opinion on my the other question, titled "another one"?
  3. I've also chosen B. But, is it gramatically correct? I mean, can we "run for" gas? I have never come across the usage of "run" meaning "look for, search" As far as I could find in the dictionaries, "run for" means "be a candidate" Can we use "run for" in this meaning in daily English? My question is especially to the native speakers.
  4. I've chosen B. But, is there a difference between the two?
  5. Woman: I'm afraid we are about to run out of gas. Man : Don't worry. There is a gas station at the junction ahead of us. Question: What is their problem? a. They don't have left any gas. b. They are running for gas. P.S.: Again, the other choices didn't make sense.
  6. Man: This is the scariest film I've ever seen. Woman: I'm afraid you're right. Question: What is their opinion about the film? a. That was the scariest film they have ever seen. b. They are sharing the same opinion about the film. P.S.: This is what I could remember from the test. The other options didn't make sense.

(that) have a complicated structure D. their structure is complicated the structure of which is complicated. 2. By studying geometry, students can learn how what to develop logical arguments through deductive reasoning. 4. One out of every ten persons in the 1978 United States labor force was a teenager, compared to by one out of fifteen in 1960. 5. A goose's neck is a little tiny longer than that of a duck and not so gracefully curved as a swan's 6. Even though many early leaders of the United States have provided names for towns, only George Washington is remembered in the name of a state.
  8. It is only a phrase. I'll try to find a referrence in grammar links for you.. In my opinion, "sea" should be "seas" But, on the other hand, "in a basin" --->"on a basin" There may be a typoo. In this case,we cannot use an article here. You have to make a study on determiners. The grasslands of all continents support populations of grazing animals (that are) feeding on the grasses
  9. This is a typical inversion structure. Erin made a good explaination here: http://www.TestMagic.com/grammar/explanations/inversion.htm
  10. 1. The practice of making excellent films based on rather obscure novels has been going on so long in the United States_________constitute a tradition. A. being B. as to C. so that D. could Answer is "B" 2. A swamp between two seas sea, the Okefenokee Swamp in Florida lies in a basin 120 feet above sea level. 3. The grasslands of all continents support populations of grazing animals feeding feed on the grasses
  11. Hi :) As far as I could undestand, "concern"--> "to be about" as in: This article concerns the energy crisis. "concern with" --> "involve" as in: This book concerns with a lot of illustrations. Actually I couldn' get the difference between "concern" and "be concerned" As for "formation". Do you think it should be "formations"?
  12. Hi :) After her second hapless love affair in a year, Bethany decided she'd had her fill of romance. We understand that Bethany has had a bad year in love affairs. Both of her love affairs have ended in failure. So, we can assume she thought that she'd had her fill of romance. That is, she had "more than enough of romance". The professor gasped when his young student had the audacity to tell the visiting physicist that she thought his theory did not hold water. "did not hold water" means "baseless" She thinks the theory of the visiting physicist is unfounded or baseless.
  13. Wasleys, Can you give a second thought on Q2? "concerns" looks O.K. to me. Don't you think formation should be plural? 2.Petrography concerns primarily with the detailed description and classification of rocks, whereas petrology deals primarily with rock formations.
  14. Actually, I'm not sure about this question. I don't see any difference between "so" and "therefore". I'd say "therefore" is redundant. But, on the other hand, "touching" doesn't sound O.K. to me. There is sth. odd in the parallelism here. "hearing" is O.K. It is the name of the "hearing sense". "smell" is also O.K. It is the name of the "smelling sense" "touching" could be changed to "touch" Because the name of the "touching sense" is "touch" "touching" is sth. different. ýt means "touchy, sentimental etc..."
  15. That was exactly what I wanted to say.:)
