Hello all TMIans, My friend is applying for MS program in Microelectronics (VLSI / System-on-Chip) @ KTH Royal Institute of Technology Sweden. He says that KTH ranks 5th in the world in microelectronics. Is this true??:hmm: I mean that there are many top US universities like (MIT, Berkley, CaTech, GaTech etc etc) and they are also overall top ranking in engineering disciplines, then how come KTH ranks 5th in the World in this specific subject? I have searched the internet but havent found any resources that authenticate this information. gradschools.com says KTH is good in microelectronics but doesnt states that it ranks 5th. Does anybody have information regarding this ranking? Thankyou

Cool score dude, I also got my final score from ETS today. 280 in all and 5.0 in the writing section. Did you gave your test on 30 January???

Hello Cheskamae The Cambridge cd-rom is different from the cambridge book in such a way that in Cambridge cd-rom you get to give the practice tests that simulate real-test enviroment. The test engine of cambridge practice tests on the cd-rom is 95% same like that of real toefl test. So if you practice a lot, you will feel very confident while giving the real test. The practice tests in the book has a different approach (the questions are the same) but unlike cd-rom test it doesnt has timing. While taking the cbt toefl on cd-rom you have to finish the questions in time, so you get to know how much pace you should keep to finish the whole questions accurately. Barrons book is good for structure portion. You must practice the structure section in the barrons. The structure given in the cambridge practice tests are very easy; so it wont help you unless you study the structure portion from Barrons. I had just practiced the cambridge tests, that is why I got some structure questions wrong. But you should avoid the same mistake which I did and score 300/300. Kaplan has some published a new book on iBT 2006. Check it out, though I am not sure if its good or not.

Hello Cheskamae, Well judging from the posts in this forum, I think 280+ is an ideal total score but I am not sure thats why I posted this thread in order to find out where I stand. Cambridge practice tests are good. Do you have the preparation CD-ROM??? I purchased both Cambridge and Barrons. Cambridge book contains 4 audio cds with a CD-ROM (thats contains the practice tests) while Barrons book came with 5 audio cds and no CD-ROM. I just practiced the model tests of Cambridge. I should have studied the structure review section from Barrons, I didnt even touch it and I guess that was the only reason I got few questions wrong in the structure section. Barrons is a must for the structure section and its practice tests are more than sufficient to get you prepared for the structure section. The rest, just study it from Cambridge book. Best of luck for the test Cheskamae. Aim at 300 and I am sure you will get it. :) One last thing, DO NOT PANIC!!! why???? check out the consequence of it in the gre section (my gre score).

Brother, first of all neither Indians nor Pakistanis nor any other south asians are trying to impress other people. About the preparation time I mentioned, it wasnt to show how genious I was but to tell TMians that unlike GRE just studying a week or so can fetch you a score above 250. Nowdays everybody gets above 250. I mentioned "How bad is my score is", only to know what the average score is these days and where I stand. My God why you guyz are always trying to find some point to attack. If you did'nt like the post you should have simply ignored it. In the end I would say this forum has helped me alot. All the TMians were very kind and helped me through these tests (GRE and TOEFL). I think my TOEFL score is somewhat better than GRE score. Keep up the best work TMians. My score: Listening 27 Structure/Writing 13 to 29 Reading 30 Total 233 - 287 I just gave six practice tests of Cambridge TOEFL Preparation CBT. Didnt have any prior preparation for toefl. So how much bad is it (I mean my score). :rolleyes: To test-takers: For structure I would suggest to review and practice the tests given in the Barrons book (which I didnt and thats why scored low in the structure section). Barrons is good for structure. Rest of the CBT test, Cambridge preparation material is more than enough.

Well, I have also given the PowerPrep tests. I dont find any big difference between the two. Anyways, my test is tommorow and nothing much I can do about it now. Hoping for the best. Best of luck TMians. Pray for me also.

Well, I have given PowerPrep tests and also Cambridge TOEFL Prepraration tests, their difficulty level is the same. So I would suggest you buy Cambridge Preparation Book along with CD-ROM and review the listening section in it, but I am not sure whether Cambridge preparation material is enough for getting you prepared for the real test. I will be appearing in the TOEFL exam on 30th of this month (i.e Tommorow morning), so I will post my experience later on when I come back.

Hey atleast you are lucky enough to receive the cd, guyz like me dont get anything. I didnt get the GRE preparation cd and dont expect to receive the toefl cd :(

Hello, I have been taking the the practice tests on Cambridge Preparation for the Toefl test CBT CD-ROM and my average score is 230-280. I wanted to ask whether Cambridge is good for practicing the Toefl test.

Well first of all my gre score is way too less to get admission in universities which I had choosen. Before the test, I was flying high. My Universities: Ohio State University University of Boulder Colorado ASU, tempe I am planning for MS Elecrical Engineering (specialize in RF/Microwaves). I dont seen any chances of success in these universities. UT Dallas, requires 1300+ So I will have to retake I guess. If anyone of you know any good universities offering specialization in RF/Microwaves, and where I am likely to get admission, please do tell.

Thankx for the encouragment black hawk I am thinking to apply for admission but probability of success seems very minute. Anyways if I didnt get admission I will retake.
