Hi David, Am in a tight spot....My profile might get me admitted in one of the good colleges within top 30....but I cant expect any financial aid. People say, I might be able to get some good aid from colleges ranked 30-50. I can, after working for a year or two save enough money to finance my MBA in top 30. But then I will be wasting a year or two.Am 30 years old already.What would you suggest me to do?Should I drop out and apply later or compromise on the rank of the college?Will look forward to your reply. Am shortlisting the colleges for applying.Am concentrating on first tier(as per Business week rankings) schools, but want to spread my choices to some second tier colleges too.Was wondering if it is worth applying to a school that has missed the first tier by few ranks? How different will my job prospects be if I graduate from a school say ranked 35th, than from a school ranked 30th? Thanx

Hi David, Am aiming for one year progg in colleges like IMD, INSEAD, HEC and Thunderbird.Will it be easy to get a break in US/Canada after my MBA?Do the US companies look down upon one year progg? INSEAD has two MBA progg-one starting in fall and the other in spring.Will my job prospects be better if I opt for the fall session? Thanx in advance

Hi David, I understand I can provide diversity to any college..But I do need to fit in the mosaic..even an artist can provide diveristy me think...but he will have to work hard on his essays. Have few more queries.Will appreciate if can take some time out to answer them 1)Is the college to which I am applying, aware of the names of other colleges to which I am applying to? 2)Is it true that Re-applicants do not stand a good chance? 3)Can u name any good (1st tier/second tier) one year progg in US? Hi David, Thanks for yr reply.I am an Marine engineer in Merchant Navy.I hail from India.I scored 700 in GMAT and am having a GPA of 2.8.I have 7 years of international work experience.Which rank colleges do you think I shud apply to in US and Europe? Wud it be advisible to mention in my essay that I intend to go back to shipping after my MBA.Wont it lead the schools to beleive that I wont be accepting a job offered by companies coming for campus recruitement? I feel that such beleif might go against me.Whats yr take? Can you give a rough idea of the percentage of students acceptd in each round of admission? Thanx in advance

Jcliver, I have gone thru the similar phase while preparing for GMAT....I did not get any convincing reply when i posted a similar quest....but can tell u my exp....I think I missed 2-3 quest in quant and possibly 8-10 in verbal....and my score was 700

Thanx for yr reply Erin....I am still not sure if thats my correct GPA....but it wont be good, if not poor...will appreciate if smeone can throw some light on how to calculate GPA...I read somewhere its the ratio of one's percentage to the topper's percentage, multiplied by 4.0...does it hold true for all nationalities' college??.....if thats the case for India too, then my GPA wud be around 3.0...is it still competitive with 700 GMAT??
