  1. Hey nightrider, I don't think Gmat Prep helps for certain individuals. For me, I've scored way higher on both Gmat Prep exams. I've only scored below a 39 in Verbal on one Kaplan exam, but received 42 and 39 on the Gmat Prep tests. I recently re-took the exam, and went from a 28 to a 36 on the real thing. I thought all hope was lost, but that boost definitely help me get in range of my target schools. It takes a lot of practice. In my opinion, I think the Manhattan exams will really help. I think the difficult is on par with the real gmat. Any other test is too diluted to give an accurate score. I scored a 35-39-36 on my last three Manhattan tests. I ended up with a 36 on the real thing. I've seen so many books, and gone through a lot of material, but I'd have to say that the best SC book is the new Manhattan SC book. Also, the critical reasoning bible from power score is awesome. For reading comp, I love the new Manhattan gmat book. A lot of people have complained about it, but it helped me on the real exam. I love the strategies. Kaplan is okay for reading comp, but their methods are too general. Also, I think a lot of people get hung up on a few questions. Honestly, I decided to just move on, and even though I didn't break 40, an 8 point improvement is good enough for me. Let me know if you need some additional help.
  2. Not to be a downer, but I'd definitely say that the Gmat Prep tests are better at indicating your true performance. My lowest score was a 680 on Kaplan. I scored over 700 multiple times, and scored a 710 on the UTP. Ended up with a 600 on the real exam. Overall, the Kaplan exams are much easier than the real exam. The real verbal is way tougher. The SC questions in Kaplan are so simple that it's not even funny. The Gmat Prep SC questions are tougher. This is just my biased opinion. Honestly, go in thinking confidently, but don't think about a specific score. Just pace yourself well. Remember, guessing on the real thing is not a bad thing to do. The hard bin questions are just too time consuming to get every question right. Good luck!
  3. Hey Maverick, I'm sorry to see another person face the same ordeal that I faced during my GMAT. After reading a bunch of debriefs, I think a lot of test takers are focusing too much on the first part of the exam. I think that's where my score fell because I had to guess on a lot of questions at the end of the exam because I took too long in the beginning. Honestly, I don't think it's necessarily our level. I've seen people who score 25V in practice tests and get 38V on the real thing. How that happens, I have no clue. Except for my one test with a 35V, my lowest score has been 39V. Lowest score has been 670. I've taken Kaplan, Gmat Prep, MGmat, etc. I will say that the actual Verbal is way tougher than the practice tests. The SC is very different. I'm getting back into my studies this week. I plan to re-take in a month or so.
  4. Do you know of any good verbal materials to use? I just need something that is more representative of the real questions. The questions in the OG are a joke.
  5. I've taken MGMAT practice tests, GMAT Prep, Kaplan, Arco, etc. I've received higher practice on all of them. I think the main thing that I've gotten from that is a person can't go by his/her practice exams. Honestly, I don't know how some people increase their scores from practice exams to the real thing. I think the actual GMAT is way harder. The Kaplan classroom CATs are pretty easy. Even the UPT was a joke compared to the real thing. I don't know what to do because I can't improve my verbal. I've pretty much exhausted my chances. I'd really work on RC and SC. CR is not so bad (only slightly tougher than GMAT Prep). Any advice on how to improve my verbal? My practice exams are obviously not helping.
  6. Hey All, About a year and a half ago I took the GMAT and scored a 600 (45Q 28V). I enrolled in a Kaplan Advanced course. See all of my practice test scores below, along with my second official GMAT score. Kaplan: Diagnostic - 700 CAT 1 - 680 (49Q 35V) CAT 2 - 710 (49Q 41V) CAT 3 - 730 (48Q 49V) CAT 4 - 700 (44Q 48V) CAT 5 - 690 (41Q 51V) Ultimate Practice Test - 710 (49Q, 41V) Gmat Prep 1 - 710 (46Q 42V) Gmat Prep 2 - 670 (43Q 39V) Actual GMAT - 600 (45Q 28V) The actual verbal is way tougher than anything else. I don't know what to do because I couldn't apply most of the rules that I learned. It seemed that I received a lot of style/usage questions. Reading comp was insanely tough. Quant wasn't so bad. I had some timing issues with Quant. Honestly, I think that RC and SC are key issues in verbal. My CR has always been consistent, but my SC and RC always change. I never scored below 680 on my paper tests as well. It's hard to guage someone's verbal progress because someone can get used to taking similar test questions. I did not think that the Kaplan CATs were harder than the real thing. If anything, they were a lot easier. I think the Gmat Prep tests are the best practice tests to use even though my scores do not reflect that. I'm really frustrated because I kept scoring in the 90+ percentile in almost every CAT. I'm going to try one more time in about a month. I'm going to focus solely on verbal. Pleasewa do not neglect verbal. I'm pretty distraught right now. If you need any additional details, please feel free to send a message. -Donkey

  8. Hey Albema, If you know that a*n = r*n, and r is a constant, then a must equal r. As synfist stated, solve for a or r, and that will give you the answer. Both statements give A = 10, so if you plug back in, you get the following: 10*N = number 10*1 = 10 10*2 = 20.....and so on until you reach 100, so for all values n before 100, that's the answer. You don't need to know n though as long as you know A or R, and that n is a positive integer. If n is not a positive integer, then the possibities change. The same goes for statement 2.
  9. I wouldn't say that the Manhattan Gmat tests are easier. In fact, I think the math can be somewhat tougher. The Verbal questions aren't quite the same as the real exam. Overall, I think those tests do not correlate that well. If you are shooting for 700+, then you need to shoot for well over 700 on the Manhattan tests to receive that score on the real thing. That is just my opinion. People say Gmat prep is great, but I think those tests are way easier than the real thing as well. Overall, if you need a test that will skew lower, I think the Kaplan CATs are your best bet. This is only based on my performance throughout. A lot of test takers feel that the Gmat prep software is the best indication.
  10. Hey Hokie, What was your score breakdown on your UPT? I'm just curious. I'm been consistently scoring 710-730 on all of my Kap tests. I received a 710 on the UPT (90% Quant, and 91% verbal). I'm just curious to see how these translated into your real score. My Kaplan verbal scores have been consistently high (93%, 99%, 99%, and 91% for my last 4 exams). Wondering if this will translate into a decent verbal score during test day. I received a 56% during my original Gmat, which I took over a year and half ago.

  12. Congrats man! Excellent score. I've heard that there is a "strong correlation" between someone's top Kaplan score and the actual GMAT score.
  13. I like the Advanced Course. I'm not sure what the regular course is about, but I do know that the teacher shares more "advanced" info in the advanced course (from what the teacher said). You also get 2 hours of free tutoring with the advanced course.
  14. Hey Hokie, I've been doing questions from the OG, and have taken the Gmat Prep practice tests. Personally, I still think that the real Gmat Verbal questions are harder than anything that I've seen. Well, I'm going to practice a lot and give it my all. I don't take my test for another month. I'll let you know how it goes. Good luck with your exam! Also, I don't think that the algorithm is more lenient for Kaplan. I see it somewhat. I scored a 49Q and 41V, and only received a 710. I guess we'll see after I take my exam. -Donkey
